Fee burning
Plain definition. Fee burning on the XRP Ledger means every transaction pays a small XRP cost that is permanently destroyed rather than paid to anyone, which makes spamming the network expensive.
Technical definition. Every valid XRP Ledger transaction must include an XRP transaction cost, set in its Fee field, and that cost is destroyed rather than paid to validators. Once the transaction is included in a validated ledger, the specified cost is debited from the sender’s XRP balance and destroyed by the protocol, including for some failed transactions with a tec result code. According to the official XRP Ledger documentation, the current minimum transaction cost for a standard transaction is 0.00001 XRP, also called 10 drops, and the cost may rise due to load-based scaling.
