Multi-Purpose Token (MPT)

Plain definition. A Multi-Purpose Token is a kind of fungible token on the XRP Ledger, designed to be more efficient and easier to use than trust line tokens.

Technical definition. Multi-Purpose Tokens (MPTs) are a form of fungible token on the XRP Ledger that requires the MPTokensV1 amendment, and each issuance is uniquely identified by an MPT Issuance ID, a 192-bit number not intended for display to humans. Every MPT issuance has its key properties defined in the ledger as an MPTokenIssuance entry, which holds functional data such as the transfer fee and maximum quantity plus non-functional data such as the asset scale and up to 1024 bytes of arbitrary metadata. MPTs are unidirectional, with no balance netting and an explicit separation between holder and issuer, and their balances are always positive and use fixed-precision integers instead of floating-point math.
