Phishing
Plain definition. Phishing means fake emails that pretend to come from a known sender, such as FINRA staff, to trick people into opening attachments that can carry malware or steal logins.
Technical definition. FINRA issued a cybersecurity alert about an email phishing campaign that began as early as January 22, 2026. In that campaign, fraudulent emails purporting to be from FINRA employees aimed to trick recipients into opening an attachment, potentially exposing the firm to malware or stealing login information. The emails came from the fraudulent domain “finra[.]org[.]cazepost[.]com”, while legitimate FINRA emails are sent only from the “finra.org” domain, and FINRA warned that such attachments can contain malware or be designed to steal login credentials or other information.
