Real-world assets (RWA)

Plain definition. Real-world assets are digital tokens that stand for existing kinds of wealth, such as real estate, gold, stocks or art, so many people can share ownership.

Technical definition. Ethereum.org describes real-world assets (RWAs) as tokens representing existing forms of wealth, tangible or intangible, which tokenization translates into digital form so they can be divided between multiple owners and traded more easily. RWA tokens have no intrinsic value; they reflect the value of the item they represent, and that value changes along with the item’s value. Because the tokens run on smart contracts, they can be traded person-to-person without intermediaries.
