Recovery scam
Plain definition. According to FINRA, recovery scams typically start with someone offering to help you recoup money lost in an imposter or other type of investment scam, and they can often lead to even greater losses.

FINRA says recovery scams typically begin with communication from someone offering to help recoup money lost in an imposter or other type of investment scam, and that they can often lead to even greater losses. As part of these schemes, fraudsters may pose as a regulator or reference FINRA or another entity to retarget investors who have already been defrauded.
