Which exchanges does Ripple’s ODL documentation list?
Ripple’s documentation page “Connecting to digital asset exchanges” says it describes “the liquidity paths, exchanges, supported currencies, and payout methods that On-Demand Liquidity supports across RippleNet” [1]. The page carries no date. In the version reviewed on September 30, 2026, its table lists nine exchanges [1]:
| Exchange | Currencies | Payout methods listed |
|---|---|---|
| AUDD | AUD | Bank transfer |
| Bitso | USD / MXN | USD: wire to a USD account, no automated payout. MXN: SPEI, real time 24/7 to Mexican bank accounts; Bitso transfer; instant/debit card transfer; mobile phone transfer |
| Bitstamp | USD / EUR / GBP | USD: domestic payments / ACH, 1-2 business days. EUR: SEPA, 1-2 business days / Instant SEPA by country or bank. GBP: FPS, 1-2 business days. No GBP CHAPS payouts |
| BTC Markets | AUD | BPay and instant OSKO |
| Coinbase Prime | USD | ACH or wire transfer |
| Coins.ph | PHP | Cash pickup, InstaPay, credit to bank account, e-wallet, PesoNet |
| Independent Reserve | USD / SGD / AUD | USD and SGD: bank transfer. AUD: bank transfer (through BTCM) |
| PDAX | PHP | InstaPay, credit to bank account, e-wallet, PesoNet |
| Uphold | USD / EUR / GBP | USD: electronic transfers 24/7, settled on business days only. EUR: SEPA 24/7, settled on business days only / SEPA Instant 24/7. GBP: FPS 24/7 |
The same page says five of these can be set up as the source exchange, where the customer’s money goes in: Bitstamp, BTC Markets, Coinbase Prime, Independent Reserve and Uphold [1]. Which asset is traded on each exchange is listed under open questions; for how ODL uses XRP, see How does Ripple’s On-Demand Liquidity (ODL) use XRP?.
Coinbase. The entry is Coinbase Prime, listed for USD, and it is one of the five source exchanges [1]. The documentation says that for any crypto asset, the customer must set up a wallet from its portfolio on Coinbase Prime [1]. It names no other Coinbase service.
Philippine pesos. Coins.ph and PDAX are the two exchanges listed for PHP [1]. Neither is on the source-exchange list [1].
What does connecting to one of these exchanges involve?
The documentation lists three setup tasks: pre-fund the source exchange account “to supply sufficient liquidity to fund the payments you submit through RippleNet”, generate exchange API keys, and upload the key and secret to Ripple Payments [1]. The keys let the ODL service “communicate with your source and destination exchange accounts” [1]. Keys are entered for the prod environment; the test environment does not use exchange keys [1].
The customer opens and funds its own account at each exchange. On this reading, the exchanges are venues the customer connects to, not firms that supply liquidity to Ripple under a published contract. This follows from the setup steps [1]. The step from these accounts to live corridors is covered in How does a bank go from an ODL pilot to full volume?.
Are the documented funding limits large enough for institutional corridors?
The documentation sets these per-order amounts [1]:
| Exchange | Minimum order | Maximum order |
|---|---|---|
| AUDD | 100 AUD | none listed |
| Bitso | 0.50 USD, 10 MXN | none listed |
| Bitstamp | 10 USD / EUR / GBP | none listed |
| BTC Markets | 0.01 AUD | none listed |
| Coinbase Prime | none listed | none listed |
| Coins.ph | 0.65 PHP (Coins.ph), 10 PHP (CoinsPro) | none listed |
| Independent Reserve | 50 AUD | none listed |
| PDAX | 10 PHP | none listed |
| Uphold | 5 USD, 10 EUR / GBP | 25,000 USD / EUR / GBP |
If a transaction does not meet an exchange’s requirements, ODL rejects the payment with an error [1]. Separately, each exchange’s account options may limit monthly trades and daily or monthly withdrawals, and raising those limits may require extra documentation and time [1]. The documentation gives no figures for these account limits.
Only Uphold carries a published per-order cap, so a single order above 25,000 USD, EUR or GBP through Uphold would be rejected under the documented rule. The documentation does not say whether ODL splits large payments. Whether the other limits suit institutional volume depends on account terms the page does not publish [1].
Which currency corridors have no listed provider?
The table covers seven currencies: AUD, USD, MXN, EUR, GBP, PHP and SGD [1]. A payment ending in any other currency has no listed exchange on this page. Only USD, EUR, GBP, SGD and AUD have a listed source exchange, so MXN and PHP appear only on the payout side. This follows from the currency table and the source-exchange list [1].
Within the listed currencies there are gaps. Bitstamp cannot make GBP CHAPS payouts, and Bitso’s USD leg has no automated payout [1]. Ripple said on June 9, 2026 that it and Bitso have partnered for years on LATAM payment infrastructure “including MXN and COP payout flows” [3]; COP has no row in the ODL table [1]. The wider footprint is covered in How far did Ripple’s ODL expand around the world?.
Are these exchanges paid or incentivized by Ripple to take part?
No public source gives fee, rebate or incentive terms between Ripple and these exchanges as of September 30, 2026. The sources do show business ties. Ripple’s March 2026 release on its Australian licence names Independent Reserve among its Australian customers [2]. Ripple’s June 9, 2026 release calls Bitso a long-standing partner and an early exchange partner for RLUSD [3]. Ripple’s Q4 2024 XRP Markets Report says RLUSD is available on exchanges including Uphold, Bitstamp, Bitso and Independent Reserve [4]. None of these releases states payment terms. Who holds the inventory on these venues is covered in Why do market makers hold XRP, and are they betting on its price?.
What evidence cuts against reading this list as XRP demand?
The documentation lists exchanges and payout methods; it gives no volumes [1]. CryptoSlate wrote on December 20, 2025 that “many institutions use RippleNet messaging and fiat-only settlement” and that, in its view, XRP appears only where pre-funding costs and FX spreads justify taking token volatility risk [6]. The same article reported a DAS Research estimate of about $1.3 billion in ODL volume in Q2 2025 [6].
Ripple’s own recent messaging points to other assets as well. An April 24, 2026 Ripple post says its payments platform supports stablecoins including USDC, USDT and RLUSD and settles across stablecoins and fiat rails [5]. For Bitso’s corridor, Ripple said on June 9, 2026 that Bitso’s MXNB stablecoin will be issued on the XRP Ledger and, together with RLUSD, will support US–Mexico enterprise settlement on the XRPL Permissioned DEX [3]. That is a plan, and the release quote describing it does not mention XRP in the flow [3]. As of the sources reviewed, the ODL documentation still lists Bitso for USD/MXN [1]. Whether flows through these exchanges can be traced on the ledger, and what share of Ripple’s volume uses XRP, is covered in How much of Ripple’s payment volume actually uses XRP?.
What we know
- Ripple’s ODL page ‘Connecting to digital asset exchanges’ (undated; reviewed September 30, 2026) lists nine exchanges with their currencies: AUDD (AUD), Bitso (USD/MXN), Bitstamp (USD/EUR/GBP), BTC Markets (AUD), Coinbase Prime (USD), Coins.ph (PHP), Independent Reserve (USD/SGD/AUD), PDAX (PHP) and Uphold (USD/EUR/GBP).
- The same page (reviewed September 30, 2026) says five exchanges can be set up as the source exchange: Bitstamp, BTC Markets, Coinbase Prime, Independent Reserve and Uphold.
- The same page (reviewed September 30, 2026) sets per-exchange minimum order amounts, one maximum (Uphold, 25,000 USD/EUR/GBP), and says ODL rejects a payment that does not meet an exchange’s requirements.
- The same page (reviewed September 30, 2026) lists three setup tasks: pre-fund the source exchange account, generate exchange API keys, and upload the key and secret to Ripple Payments, using the prod environment.
- Ripple’s March 2026 release on its Australian licence names Independent Reserve among its Australian customers.
- Ripple said on June 9, 2026 that Bitso’s MXNB stablecoin will be issued on the XRP Ledger and, with RLUSD, will support US–Mexico enterprise settlement; this is a plan, not a live flow.
- CryptoSlate reported on December 20, 2025 that DAS Research put ODL volume at about $1.3 billion in Q2 2025.
What we reason Analysis
- the exchanges are venues where the ODL customer holds its own accounts, not firms contracted to supply liquidity to Ripple. This follows from the documentation’s setup steps (open an account, pre-fund it, generate API keys) [1].
- a single order above 25,000 USD, EUR or GBP routed through Uphold would fail under the documented rejection rule. Whether ODL splits large payments into smaller orders is not stated. This follows from the order table and the rejection rule [1].
- AUDD, Bitso, Coins.ph and PDAX appear only on the payout side, because they are absent from the source-exchange list. This follows from comparing the currency table with the source-exchange list [1].
- payments that end in a currency other than AUD, USD, MXN, EUR, GBP, PHP or SGD have no listed exchange in this documentation. This follows from the currency table [1].
What's still open
- Volume per exchange: no public source gives it as of September 30, 2026. The ODL documentation page, Ripple releases from November 2025 to June 2026, and the CryptoSlate report were checked.
- Whether Ripple pays, rebates or otherwise incentivizes these exchanges: no public source says so as of September 30, 2026. The same sources were checked.
- Revision date of the documentation: the page carries no date, and it says its third-party instructions may change without notice (reviewed September 30, 2026).
- Ripio’s role: named in the API-key section with no currency or order row; no explanation found as of September 30, 2026.
- The asset traded on each exchange: the passages of the documentation reviewed do not name it (reviewed September 30, 2026).
In plain English
Ripple runs a payment service called On-Demand Liquidity that connects to crypto trading platforms in several countries. Its instructions for customers name nine such platforms, covering US dollars, euros, British pounds, Australian and Singapore dollars, Mexican pesos and Philippine pesos. A business using the service opens its own accounts on these platforms, puts money in first, and connects them to Ripple with digital keys. The instructions do not say how much money flows through each platform. They also do not say whether Ripple pays the platforms to take part.
