Amendments
Plain definition. On the XRP Ledger, an amendment is a new feature or other change to how transactions are processed, and validators vote on whether to switch it on.
Technical definition. Amendments are changes affecting transaction processing that the XRP Ledger approves through its consensus process, with validators voting on each one. An amendment must keep support from more than 80% of trusted validators for two weeks to be enabled; it then applies permanently to all later ledger versions, and turning it off requires a new amendment. Servers check amendment status every flag ledger, which is every 256th ledger.
