Short answer
No, native lending is not live on the XRP Ledger. As of September 29, 2026, XRPL.org still listed it as Coming Soon. Version 3.4.0, released September 16, 2026, added an amendment extending the lending design. Crypto.news reported a September 17 snapshot showing 13 of 35 trusted validators backing LendingProtocol, short of the over 80% needed for two weeks.
The full answer
Native lending is not live on the XRP Ledger. When checked on September 29, 2026, XRPL.org’s home page listed lending as “Open for Voting” in its menu and as “Lending (Coming Soon)” in the page body [1]. The Crypto Times reported on September 24, 2026 that none of the lending upgrades was active on mainnet and that they had no confirmed activation dates [6].
What did version 3.4.0 add for lending?
XRPL.org published xrpld 3.4.0 on September 16, 2026. The release introduces the LendingProtocolV1_1 amendment, which extends Single Asset Vaults and the Lending Protocol with closed-ended vaults and cash-basis accounting [2].
Closed-ended vaults have three phases: subscription, investment and redemption. The phases set when assets can be deposited, when loans can be originated and when assets can be redeemed. The release notes state that once the amendment is enabled, new loan brokers can only be created against closed-ended vaults [2]. Cash-basis accounting counts interest as income only when payments are actually made [2].
This builds on earlier work. Crypto-Economy reported in September 2026 that version 3.1.0, launched in January, introduced the code for Single Asset Vaults and the Lending Protocol [10]. XRPL.org’s Known Amendments page describes the Lending Protocol as fixed-term, uncollateralized loans funded from a Single Asset Vault [3]. Ripple wrote on June 29, 2026 that credit judgment stays off-chain while the protocol standardizes execution once terms are agreed [7]. The mechanics are covered in how the XRP Ledger’s native lending protocol works.
Why doesn’t installing 3.4.0 switch lending on?
crypto.news reported on September 18, 2026 that XRPL’s amendment rules treat installing software as giving a server the code needed to understand the proposed rules; validators choose separately whether to vote for activation [5]. The same report says a default-no setting means running the software does not cast a yes vote on its own [5]. XRPL.org’s Known Amendments page, checked September 29, 2026, shows LendingProtocolV1_1 with a default vote of “No” in the latest stable release [3].
XRPL.org states that an amendment open for voting becomes enabled if it holds a supermajority for at least two weeks [3]. crypto.news gives the rule as more than 80% support held for two continuous weeks [5]. Jake Claver’s amendment tracker adds that if support drops below the threshold at any point, the two-week clock resets [9]. The full process is explained in how XRP Ledger amendments get approved.
How many validators support the lending amendments?
A September 17, 2026 snapshot based on XRPL Foundation validator-history data, reported by crypto.news, showed 16 of 35 trusted validators supporting SingleAssetVault and 13 of 35 supporting LendingProtocol [5]. crypto.news notes these counts are time-sensitive and come from an independent network tracker, not from the release notes [5]. Crypto Daily reported that, as of June 30, 2026, XRPL.org’s Known Amendments page listed both amendments as open for validator voting on mainnet [12].
From the crypto.news count of 35 trusted validators and the more-than-80% rule [5], LendingProtocol would need at least 29 yes votes, up from 13 on September 17.
Why are validators withholding support, and what objections have been published?
The cited crypto.news report gives a Sept. It notes that the counts are time-sensitive and come from an independent network tracker, and that the official rule remains more than 80% support maintained for two continuous weeks.
First, a validator that has not upgraded to a version containing an amendment cannot vote for it, as Jake Claver notes [9]. XRPL.org asked server operators to upgrade to 3.4.0 “as soon as possible” [2], and on September 25, 2026 published version 3.4.1, an emergency release to fix security-sensitive issues [13]. No source links that emergency release to the lending amendments.
Second, Jake Claver argues that features changing what institutions can do with assets “attract scrutiny, and scrutiny takes longer than two weeks” [9]. Evernorth’s Rule 425 filing with the SEC (company-reported) asks validators to join “a phase of exhaustive technical ‘stress testing’ of the proposed amendment” [8].
Third, the design changed in September. XRPL.org’s vault documentation says vaults created before LendingProtocolV1_1 activates keep instant interest recognition permanently [4]. Combined with the 3.4.0 rule that new loan brokers can only be created against closed-ended vaults after V1_1 is enabled [2], this gives a technical reason for the order of activation to matter. No validator has been found citing it.
Who is waiting to use native lending?
Evernorth, an XRP treasury company, stated in an SEC filing its intent to use the upcoming XRP Lending Protocol (XLS-66) “as a core pillar” of its digital asset strategy [8]. Its plans are covered in what Evernorth is doing with its XRP. Bitcoin.com News reported on September 11, 2026 that Clearpool plans a native XRPL lending product with loans denominated in RLUSD, and has been testing its integration on Devnet [11]. The Crypto Times reported that a Lending and Borrowing track is scheduled for October 24–25, focused on tools, applications and integrations that could make use of the planned XRPL lending features [6]. Crypto Daily reported in July 2026 that a RippleX demo app is live and walks through the full loan lifecycle [12].
Whether XRP-backed credit needs this switch at all is a separate question, covered in does XRP credit depend on native XRPL lending and what kinds of XRP credit exist today. What an individual holder can do before activation is on the page about earning yield on XRP.
What is the case against expecting lending to matter soon?
Crypto Daily listed the risks in July 2026: validators might not sustain a supermajority; even native features can have logic or accounting flaws; and unsecured lending magnifies borrower risk [12]. Ripple wrote on June 29, 2026 that lending and credit “barely exists onchain yet” [7]. Activation would switch on the tools, not create lenders or borrowers. The broader argument that XRP infrastructure is being built before demand is examined in is money going into XRP infrastructure ahead of real demand.

What we reason Analysis
- Support for LendingProtocol would need to rise from 13 to at least 29 of 35 trusted validators to pass more than 80%, a figure calculated from the crypto.news count of 35 trusted validators and the 80% rule it reports [5].
- Because the lending amendments ship with a default vote of No [3][5], each validator operator has to choose to vote yes; the gap between release and activation is therefore set by operator decisions, not by the release date.
- XRPL.org says vaults created before LendingProtocolV1_1 keeps instant interest recognition permanently [4], and 3.4.0 says new loan brokers can only be created against closed-ended vaults once V1_1 is enabled [2]. These documents give a technical reason why the order of activation matters. No validator has been found citing it as a reason.
What's still open
- As of September 30, 2026, I could not find any validator operator’s published reason for withholding a yes vote, having searched validator statements and release coverage from crypto.news, The Crypto Times, Crypto-Economy and Bitcoin.com News.
- As of September 30, 2026, I could not find any validator tally for LendingProtocolV1_1, nor any statement of whether the three lending amendments must activate together.
- As of September 30, 2026, I could not find any vote count later than September 17, 2026.
In plain English
The XRP Ledger has lending software written and released, but the feature is still switched off. According to crypto.news, the official XRPL amendment rule requires more than 80% support from trusted validators (the computer operators who vote on changes), maintained for two continuous weeks. In a September 17, 2026 count, fewer than half had voted yes. Companies such as Evernorth and Clearpool say they want to use it, but until the vote passes, no one can lend or borrow with it on the live network.
