XRP Ledger Lending Protocol

Plain definition. XRPL.org documentation describes the Lending Protocol as an XRP Ledger DeFi primitive designed to enable on-chain, fixed-term, uncollateralized loans using pooled funds from a Single Asset Vault, and its own navigation lists Lending as “Open for Voting”, so it is not yet live.

Technical definition. The XRP Ledger documentation describes the Lending Protocol as a DeFi primitive enabling “on-chain, fixed-term, uncollateralized loans using pooled funds from a Single Asset Vault,” with underwriting and risk management done off-chain and no automated on-chain collateral or liquidation management. Loan brokers create asset vaults and manage loans, depositors add assets to vaults, and borrowers receive loans and repay them under their loan terms. A broker can optionally deposit first-loss capital in a separate pseudo-account, which moves into the vault to help cover losses when a loan defaults.
