Is the XRP bull case simply that banks will use it, and do all its uses have to succeed together?

Short answer
No. XRP now sits inside payments, prime brokerage, treasury software and a proposed ledger lending protocol, and none waits on banks or on the others. As of July 2026, crypto.news judged Ripple Prime’s XRP demand a sliver and found RLUSD doing most settlement inside Ripple’s products. Parallel channels lower single-point risk; they do not guarantee value for XRP.

What does the bank evidence show on its own?
The original case said XRP would matter once banks used it to move money across borders. The bank evidence alone does not support that case yet. 24/7 Wall St. reported on April 1, 2026 that RippleNet is a messaging and settlement network banks can run entirely in fiat, and that only around 40% of RippleNet partners use On-Demand Liquidity, the product that requires XRP as a bridge asset [2]. The same report said that of the 30 banks in Swift’s new payment framework with Ripple ties, most of those ties are to the network rather than the XRP token [2]. It gave Santander as an example of a bank using RippleNet’s messaging layer without touching XRP directly [2].
24/7 Wall St. said that for the token to benefit, banks already on RippleNet need to shift from messaging-only to On-Demand Liquidity [2]. The page on whether banks actually use XRP covers that evidence in full.
Where else does XRP sit today?
Ripple said on November 5, 2025 that, after buying Rail, Ripple Payments is a cross-border platform using RLUSD and XRP, and that total Ripple Payments volumes had surpassed $95 billion [1]. The same release said Ripple Prime is expanding into collateralized lending for XRP and supporting institutions trading XRP-based products [1]. crypto.news reported on July 8, 2026 that Ripple Prime accepts XRP as collateral for margin and settlement within its own brokerage [3].
Ripple said on April 1, 2026 that Ripple Treasury shows XRP and RLUSD balances in the same account structure as cash [8]. Ripple described cross-border settlement and 24/7 yield through overnight repo as capabilities the framework “will soon expand” to, so those are planned, not live [8].
The XRPL Lending Protocol is not live. Ripple wrote on June 29, 2026 that XLS-65 and XLS-66 are subject to validator approval and can be tested on devnet [5]. Bitcoin.com reported in September 2026 that both amendments still needed validator approval before operating on mainnet, and that Evernorth had named the protocol in its strategy, targeting fixed-rate loans without wrapping XRP [6]. The same outlet reported that Clearpool’s proposed XRPL product would denominate loans in RLUSD [6].
Evernorth announced a business combination agreement with Armada Acquisition Corp II on October 20, 2025 [7]. Its announcement said net proceeds would primarily fund open-market XRP purchases and that it seeks to grow XRP per share through institutional lending, liquidity provisioning and DeFi [7].
In tokenized Treasuries, Ondo said on May 6, 2026 that the XRP Ledger processed the asset leg of a cross-border redemption in under five seconds, while the other leg settled on bank infrastructure [9]. crypto.news reported that the instrument carrying the money in that transaction was RLUSD [3]. A separate page sorts which channels are live and which are waiting.
How big is each independent market, measured in the same unit?
The reported figures do not use a shared unit:
| Channel | Reported figure | Who reported it, and when |
|---|---|---|
| Ripple Payments | Total volumes surpassed $95 billion | Ripple, November 5, 2025 [1] |
| Ripple Prime | Clears more than $3 trillion in trades a year for over 300 institutional clients | crypto.news, July 8, 2026 [3] |
| Ripple Treasury | $13 trillion in payments volume facilitated in 2025 | Ripple, April 1, 2026 [8] |
| Evernorth | Expected to raise over $1 billion in gross proceeds | Cohen & Company release, October 20, 2025 [7] |
| XRPL Lending Protocol | Subject to validator approval; devnet testing only | Ripple, June 29, 2026 [5] |
These figures measure different things. According to a secondary source (247wallst, April 1, 2026), most of the 30 SWIFT-framework banks’ Ripple ties are to network infrastructure rather than to the XRP token. None of the rows states how much XRP the activity used. Adding them would produce a number with no meaning, which is the same problem covered on the page about adding ETF, treasury, DeFi and derivatives XRP together.
Do the uses have to succeed together?
No. The evidence shows one channel growing while another waited. Ripple said in November 2025 that since the Hidden Road deal was announced, Ripple Prime’s client collateral had doubled, average daily transactions had passed 60 million and the business had tripled in size, with RLUSD already in use as collateral [1]. Benzinga reported that Ripple Prime chief Mike Higgins said on June 22, 2026 that Prime’s revenue had grown more than threefold since the integration [4]. Over the same period the XRPL Lending Protocol remained unapproved for mainnet [5][6]. Prime did not wait for it.
Independence cuts both ways. A channel that does not depend on the others also does not need XRP to grow. Ripple Prime’s growth came while, in crypto.news’s July 2026 assessment, settlement inside Ripple’s products ran predominantly on RLUSD [3]. The page about the same XRP doing several jobs covers the question.
Does this mean XRP becomes the world’s bridge asset?
The evidence does not show that. 24/7 Wall St. 24/7 Wall St. reported in April 2026 that Swift processes over $150 trillion in cross-border payments a year and that Ripple’s network is a fraction of that size [2]. A lower chance of total failure is a different claim from a path to becoming the main bridge between currencies.
What is the strongest evidence against the multi-channel case?
crypto.news examined on July 8, 2026 how much of Ripple Prime’s business creates XRP demand and concluded that fee burn is negligible, collateral is real but largely internal, and settlement flows to the stablecoin, adding up to “a sliver” [3]. It described the current collateral arrangement as Ripple’s own brokerage accepting Ripple’s own asset, a path that “today mostly runs in a circle” [3]. It wrote that Ripple built RLUSD to capture the settlement flow XRP’s volatility rules out, and that each institutional win through RLUSD helps the token only residually [3]. It also noted that Ripple Prime’s revenues belong to Ripple’s shareholders, not to XRP [3].
The same article reported XRP near $1.13, down roughly 70% from its 2025 peak, through a year of institutional wins, and read that as the market pricing this discount [3]. It called the bull reply that RLUSD seeds the ledger for later XRP collateral and bridging coherent, and a claim about sequencing whose first half is observable and whose second half is not yet [3]. The page on whether Ripple’s success lifts XRP takes this further, and the structural scenarios page sets out outcomes where the channels grow and XRP captures little.
What would show the channels adding up for XRP?
crypto.news named third-party collateral acceptance as its first signal: a brokerage or clearing venue Ripple does not own announcing that it accepts XRP as margin collateral [3]. Validator approval of XLS-65 and XLS-66 would move lending from devnet to mainnet [5]. The page on what would show the institutional thesis working lists further checks.

- September 30, 2026: Armada II shareholders approved the business combination with Evernorth at the extraordinary general meeting, with 20,514,034 votes for and 1,362,081 against, according to Evernorth’s announcement and Armada’s Form 8-K.
- The XRP Ledger documentation at xrpl.org describes XRPL AMM liquidity: an AMM pool holds two assets, at most one of them XRP, and it is built into the ledger’s order book exchange, which picks the best rate between the pool, the order books, or both. As of September 30, 2026, no public source I read covers CME XRP hedging, US spot XRP funds or FXRP, and none shows how much AMM liquidity matters to the XRP case, so the role of all four there is still not established.
What we reason Analysis
- The XRP case no longer rests on banks alone. This follows from the Ripple, Evernorth and Ondo releases, which place XRP in payments, prime brokerage, treasury software, a treasury company’s strategy and a proposed lending protocol.
- The channels do not have to succeed together. This follows from Ripple Prime’s reported growth (Ripple, November 2025; Higgins via Benzinga, June 2026) while the XRPL Lending Protocol was still not enabled on mainnet (Ripple, June 2026; Bitcoin.com, September 2026).
- Independence cuts both ways: a channel can grow while its settlement runs on RLUSD rather than XRP. This follows from crypto.news (July 2026) on RLUSD’s settlement role inside Ripple’s products.
- The channel sizes cannot be added. According to a secondary source (247wallst, April 1, 2026), 30 banks in SWIFT’s framework have Ripple ties, and most of those ties are to the network infrastructure rather than to the XRP token itself.
- Nothing in the evidence shows XRP becoming the world’s bridge asset. This follows from 24/7 Wall St. (April 2026), which reported Swift at over $150 trillion a year with Ripple’s network a fraction of that.
What's still open
- How much do the channels improve one another’s capital efficiency when they interact? Evernorth said in a September 2, 2026 press release that every quarter its report tracks the same six measures of where that liquidity forms and moves across XRP, four of them computed from the ledger itself.
- As of September 30, 2026, no fetched source for this page confirms whether Evernorth’s business combination has closed or whether validators have approved XLS-65 and XLS-66.
- How much XRP do Ripple Payments, Ripple Prime and Ripple Treasury use? As of September 30, 2026, no public filing or report gives the quantity.
In plain English
The old story was that XRP succeeds only if banks start using it to move money. The record now shows XRP sitting in several separate businesses, such as a brokerage, company treasury software and a proposed lending system, and each can grow without the others. That means one failure no longer sinks the whole case. It does not mean XRP gains much, because in Ripple’s own products a dollar stablecoin called RLUSD does most of the settling, and one reviewer called XRP’s share a sliver.
