RLUSD

Plain definition. Ripple USD (RLUSD) is a stablecoin, a digital token Ripple’s documentation describes as backed one-to-one with high quality liquid assets, cash and cash equivalents.

Technical definition. Ripple’s stablecoin documentation defines Ripple USD (RLUSD) as a USD stablecoin designed for institutions. Ripple’s RLUSD documentation says that, consistent with New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) stablecoin guidance, RLUSD is backed one-to-one by USD or permitted cash equivalents, with segregated reserve accounts, regular audits and clear redemption rights. The Standard Custody and Trust Company, LLC and other regulated Ripple subsidiaries issue it: RLUSD is minted to a crypto wallet when fiat is received, and burned when redeemed, with fiat settled to a bank account.
