What is the strongest bullish case for XRP, and is there evidence for it?
Also asked as: “Is there evidence the bull case for XRP is happening?” · “What decides whether XRP wins long term?” · “Does XRP's head start matter?”

Short answer
The strongest bull case is that the XRP Ledger becomes a settlement network for stablecoins and tokenized assets, with XRP as its bridge and collateral asset. The early links have evidence: Evernorth reported $4.26 billion of average value on the ledger in the second quarter of 2026. Public data does not yet show deep institutional demand for XRP itself.
The full answer
What is the bull case, stated at full strength?
At full strength, the case is a chain of five links. The XRP Ledger becomes a network that institutions use to settle stablecoins, tokenized securities and currency trades. Stablecoins such as RLUSD, Ripple’s dollar-backed stablecoin, and tokenized Treasuries bring large balances onto it. XRP becomes the neutral asset that routes value between them and backs loans as collateral. Holders supply that liquidity and credit. Institutions then need XRP in size.
crypto.news summed up the bulls’ version in July 2026: RLUSD adoption seeds the ledger with institutional liquidity that XRP-based collateral and bridging would one day plug into. It called that answer coherent, and also a claim about sequencing “whose first half is observable and whose second half is not yet” [1]. Whether the case rests on banks alone, and whether every use has to succeed together, is covered in is the XRP bull case simply that banks will use it.
Which links in the chain have evidence, and which have none yet?
Working-group seat: a chair, not a contract. crypto.news described the seat as a chair at a standards table rather than a contract, in a group whose roughly 50 members include JPMorgan with its Kinexys platform [1]. The article described that as “Ripple’s own brokerage accepting Ripple’s own asset” and said “today it mostly runs in a circle” [1]. The XRP Ledger’s native vault (XLS-65) and lending protocol (XLS-66) amendments were still in validator voting and had not activated at the end of the quarter covered by Evernorth’s September report [2].
Evernorth reported that accounts transacting on the ledger averaged 16,587 a day in Q2 2026, down about 25% from a year earlier [2].
Assets arriving on the ledger: evidence
This link has the clearest numbers. Evernorth reported on September 2, 2026 that value held on the XRP Ledger rose from $99 million to $4.26 billion over the six quarters to June 2026, higher in every quarter [2]. In the second quarter of 2026, tokenized assets averaged $3.72 billion and RLUSD balances $539 million, CoinDesk reported from the same data [3]. Evernorth also said the ledger’s share of all RLUSD rose from 20% to 34% over the year [2]. Evernorth is an interested party: CoinDesk describes it as the XRP treasury company preparing to list on Nasdaq [3].
CoinDesk’s March 2026 analysis, otherwise skeptical, called real-world assets “the one area where the data genuinely supports the bull case” [4]. The mix is heavy on one product. The Crypto Basic counted $1.319 billion of distributed assets on the ledger on July 24, 2026 including stablecoins, and $323.18 million without them; RLUSD alone made up 67.96% [5].
XRP as the bridge: partial evidence
On the ledger’s exchange, XRP is RLUSD’s main partner. The RLUSD/XRP pair handled roughly $900 million of trading over six months, nearly 90% of all RLUSD trading on the ledger, Crypto Times reported on July 3, 2026 from Evernorth data [6]. Trades also got larger. Each active account traded roughly 3,200 XRP a day in the second quarter of 2026, against about 1,070 a year earlier, CoinDesk reported [3]. Over the same period, accounts transacting fell about 25% to 16,587 a day, Evernorth said [2]. CoinDesk said on September 5, 2026 that an account is not necessarily one person, so account counts alone do not establish whether institutions are replacing retail traders [3].
CoinDesk wrote in March 2026 that the ledger’s activity is increasingly driven by RLUSD and tokenized assets that flow through XRP as a bridge but do not create sustained demand for the token [4]. In payments, AllAboutXRP (updated September 8, 2026) found clear first-party evidence of XRP use at SBI Remit, while many bank announcements describe Ripple products without confirming XRP as the settlement asset. Bitso named both RLUSD and XRP as settlement options [7].
XRP as collateral: early evidence
Bitnomial, which runs CFTC-regulated exchange and clearing subsidiaries, said on November 3, 2025 that XRP margin deposits were available to institutional clients trading leveraged perpetuals, futures and options [8]. It called this an extension of its partnership with Ripple and said acceptance is subject to all applicable regulatory approvals [8]. Ripple Prime also accepts XRP as collateral inside its own brokerage. crypto.news noted in July 2026 that for collateral demand to matter at scale, firms that are not Ripple would need to accept and hold XRP as margin [1].
As of September 16, 2026, XRPL.org listed the Lending amendment (LendingProtocolV1_1, in version 3.4.0) as open for voting, so it had not been shown as live as of that date. Evernorth said the Lending Protocol amendment was in validator voting at the end of June 2026 and had not activated [2]. XRPL.org still listed lending as open for voting when it released server version 3.4.0 on September 16, 2026 [9].
Holders supplying liquidity: thin evidence
Evernorth measured XRP-paired pools on the ledger growing 26% over six quarters to mid-2026 while trading through them fell 74% [2]. CoinDesk reported in March 2026 that DeFiLlama put the ledger’s total value locked at $47.54 million, on a chain whose native token had an $84 billion market value at that time [4].
Deep institutional demand for XRP: no evidence yet
Spot XRP ETFs took in $273 million in the second quarter of 2026, giving institutions a route into XRP that does not require holding the token, CoinDesk reported [3]. By September 28, 2026, ETF net assets stood at $1.77 billion, or 1.8% of XRP’s market value, KuCoin News reported from SoSoValue data, after $75.59 million of net inflows from September 21 to 25 [10]. Ripple’s products also give XRP a place inside corporate finance. Ripple said its treasury system, launched April 1, 2026, shows XRP and RLUSD balances in the same account structure as cash [11]. In its July 23, 2026 Ripple Mint post, Ripple said it expects XRP to increasingly serve as a complementary asset for liquidity, settlement, swaps and collateral as RLUSD spreads across chains [12]. That is Ripple’s stated expectation, not a measured result.
The link that would make the bull case has no measured size yet. crypto.news reported in July 2026 that Ripple Prime clears more than $3 trillion a year for over 300 institutional clients. It concluded that the share becoming XRP demand today is “a sliver”: fee burn is negligible, collateral is largely internal and settlement flows to the stablecoin [1].
Does XRP’s head start matter? The ledger has a long record. crypto.news put total XRP Ledger fee burn since 2012 at roughly 14 million XRP [1], and AllAboutXRP notes that Ripple identified Cuallix as the first institution to use xRapid and XRP in October 2017 [7].
It gives the ledger a position, not a guarantee. CoinDesk wrote in March 2026 that if the tokenization thesis plays out, the XRP Ledger has a foothold most competitors don’t [4]. The test case so far points the other way. crypto.news reported that in May 2026 the DTCC named Ripple Prime to its roughly 50-firm working group for tokenization, while in late May it chose Stellar as the first public blockchain for its tokenized securities platform; that report does not name the XRP Ledger as having a role [1]. The service had begun limited production trades by July 2026, with a full launch planned for October [1]. As of crypto.news’s July 2026 report, it was not known whether the service would give the XRP Ledger any role, and the outlet listed the October full launch proceeding with no XRPL role among the outcomes that could be checked [1].
Rivals in that group run their own systems. crypto.news named JPMorgan’s Kinexys as the largest bank-run tokenization platform, and expected the working group to produce a standard that lets each dealer plug in its own infrastructure [1]. Whether an early start can hold against better-funded rivals is the subject of what would give XRP a real competitive moat.
What is the strongest evidence against the bull case?
The strongest critique is that Ripple can win without XRP. The landmark tokenized-Treasury settlement Ripple ran with JPMorgan, Mastercard and Ondo cleared on the ledger, and the money leg was RLUSD [1]. crypto.news reported on July 25, 2026 that Ripple spent roughly $4 billion on acquisitions between 2023 and 2025, and that those businesses run primarily on fiat, traditional assets and RLUSD, a path to institutional success that does not require XRP demand [13]. Ripple Prime’s revenues belong to Ripple’s shareholders, not to XRP holders [1].
The market has priced that gap. crypto.news reported on July 8, 2026 that XRP traded near $1.13, down roughly 70% from its 2025 peak, through a year of institutional wins [1]. The ledger’s total fee burn since 2012 was roughly 14 million XRP against a 100 billion supply, the same report said [1]. The full case that company success need not lift the token is set out in does Ripple’s success mean XRP’s price goes up.
What would show the bull case is working?
In July 2026 crypto.news listed three checkable signals. The first is a brokerage or clearing venue that Ripple does not own accepting XRP as margin. The second is a named XRP Ledger role in the DTCC build. The third is Ripple Prime’s post-trade activity showing up on the ledger at scale [1]. It also named counter-signals, including the DTCC’s October launch proceeding with no XRP Ledger role, or Ripple Prime’s ledger migration staying a press-release commitment [1]. Those markers are tracked on what would show the XRP institutional thesis is working next year, and the outcomes besides this one are laid out in the possible structural outcomes for XRP.

- AllAboutXRP (reviewed 8 September 2026): public sources connect SBI Remit, Bitso, Tranglo and Cuallix to XRP-based payment flows; no complete public list proves every Ripple banking customer uses XRP.
What we reason Analysis
- The chain’s first link, assets arriving on the ledger, has measurable support in Evernorth’s September 2026 figures, while its last link, deep institutional demand for XRP, has none yet in crypto.news’s July 2026 review of Ripple Prime. The case depends on the links in between.
- Ledger growth alone is weak evidence for XRP. crypto.news reported in July 2026 that Ripple’s own settlement runs mainly on RLUSD and that its acquired businesses run mostly on fiat and RLUSD, so the ledger can grow while XRP’s role stays small.
- XRP is already RLUSD’s main trading partner on the ledger, based on the Crypto Times report of Evernorth data from July 2026. CoinDesk’s March 2026 comparison of $47.54 million in ledger DeFi value against an $84 billion market value shows how far that activity is from the scale the bull case needs.
- The deciding question is whether XRP becomes the liquidity hub inside whichever system wins, since the ledger winning is not enough. This follows from crypto.news’s July 2026 point that every RLUSD milestone helps the ledger and only residually the token.
- The head start is real but does not decide selection. CoinDesk said in March 2026 that the ledger has a tokenization foothold most rivals lack, while crypto.news reported in July 2026 that the DTCC named Stellar and not the XRP Ledger for its tokenized securities platform.
- Bitnomial’s November 2025 margin program has the shape of the third-party collateral signal crypto.news described in July 2026, though Bitnomial called it an extension of its partnership with Ripple.
What's still open
- As of October 1, 2026, it is not known whether the DTCC’s tokenization service, which crypto.news reported in July 2026 was planned for full launch in October, gives the XRP Ledger any role.
- As of October 1, 2026, the XRP Ledger’s native lending protocol had not been shown as active; XRPL.org listed lending as open for voting on September 16, 2026.
- Neither Bitnomial’s November 2025 announcement nor crypto.news’s July 2026 analysis gives a figure for how much XRP is posted as margin.
- CoinDesk said on September 5, 2026 that ledger account data cannot show whether institutions are replacing retail traders.
In plain English
People who are hopeful about XRP argue that large financial firms will move dollars and tokenized assets on the XRP Ledger, and that XRP will be the coin that connects them. Part of that is happening: by Evernorth’s count, value held on the ledger rose from $99 million to $4.26 billion over six quarters to June 2026. The part that would matter most for XRP has not shown up yet, because most settlement in Ripple’s products so far uses Ripple’s dollar stablecoin, RLUSD, rather than XRP. As of October 1, 2026 the public evidence supports the first steps of the case, not its last one.
