Short answer
More stablecoins and tokenized assets give XRP more possible bridge routes, but only deep XRP markets against them make it more useful, and one count of those markets is falling. Evernorth reported on 2 September 2026 that the assets XRP trades against on the XRPL order book fell from 479.9 to 319.4 over six quarters to Q2 2026.

Why would more assets make a bridge asset more useful?
Without a common hub, every pair of assets needs its own market. For N assets that is N × (N − 1) ÷ 2 markets. Ten assets need 45; 100 assets need 4,950. If every asset trades against one hub instead, 100 assets need 99 markets, and liquidity gathers in those 99 rather than spreading across 4,950. This is arithmetic, not a measurement.
The arithmetic shows why a hub helps. It does not show that the hub will be XRP, or that XRP’s markets against each new asset will be deep enough to use. The mechanics of converting through XRP are covered in how XRP works as a bridge between currencies, and the ledger feature that does it automatically is examined in what auto-bridging is and whether it is real or marketing.
What new stablecoins and tokenized assets reached the XRP Ledger in 2026?
CCN, citing Blockworks’ State of XRP report, reported on 20 August 2026 that XRPL-native stablecoin supply rose 195% quarter over quarter to $825.5 million in Q2 2026 [3]. The same article reported that RLUSD supply on the ledger rose 257% to $676.9 million, 82% of that total [3].
The Crypto Basic reported on 24 July 2026 that, alongside RLUSD, the ledger’s stablecoins included Braza USDB at $69.44 million, BBRL at $12 million and USDC at $5.8 million [9]. RWA.xyz showed, as of 29 September 2026, a stablecoin market cap of $1.19 billion on the XRP Ledger, 379 tokenized assets, $498.71 million of distributed asset value and $4.10 billion of represented asset value [8].
Ripple announced on 9 June 2026 that Bitso’s peso stablecoin, MXNB, will be issued on the XRP Ledger and, together with RLUSD, will support settlement for enterprise payments across the U.S.–Mexico corridor [1]. That is an announcement of what will happen. A 10 June 2026 Yahoo Finance article reported that Ondo runs its tokenized Treasury fund OUSG on the ledger with 24/7 minting and redemption [6].
How many XRP spokes are deep today, and how has that changed?
Evernorth’s Q2 2026 report, published 2 September 2026, counts the assets XRP trades against on the XRPL order book using Dune’s daily order-book pair count [2]. Evernorth reported that this count fell from 479.9 to 319.4 over the six quarters to Q2 2026, a series low [2]. Over the same six quarters, measured at quarter-end, Evernorth reported that XRP-paired AMM pools grew 26% while trading through those pools fell 74%, and concluded that “the pool count is capacity” [2].
Trading volume moved in different directions depending on the comparison. Evernorth reported DEX trading of 4.42 million XRP a day in Q2 2026, up about 20% year over year [2]. A Yahoo Finance article reported that XRPL decentralized exchange volume dropped by 36% in Q2 [3]. CoinDesk reported on 13 March 2026 that the ledger had 27,000 AMM pools holding 12 million XRP, but that the dollar value of that liquidity was thin relative to the scale of XRP’s market [4].
One spoke did deepen. The Crypto Times reported on 3 July 2026, citing Evernorth, that RLUSD’s share of XRPL on-chain trading rose from less than 1% to about 12% during 2026 [10].
The number of assets on the ledger rose in 2026 while Evernorth’s count of assets XRP trades against fell. By these measures, deep XRP spokes did not multiply as assets arrived. Pool-level depth figures are covered in how deep XRP’s market liquidity is and how deep XRP/RLUSD liquidity is on the XRPL DEX.
The dollar already acts as the vehicle currency in FX; how does the pair-count argument account for that?
On its own, it does not. The pair count argues for one hub. A dollar stablecoin cuts the number of markets just as much as XRP does. No dated public figure for the dollar’s share of foreign-exchange trading was found, so this page does not quantify it.
The XRPL evidence shows dollar stablecoins doing hub work. Ripple’s 9 June 2026 MXNB release quotes Silvio Pegado, Ripple’s Managing Director of LATAM, describing RLUSD and MXNB together on the XRPL Permissioned DEX as liquidity for payments between dollars and pesos; the release does not describe XRP in that flow [1]. The 10 June 2026 Yahoo Finance article reported that OUSG mints and redeems in RLUSD because XRP’s volatility rules it out for that job [6]. The same article reported that in the May 2026 cross-bank Treasury redemption pilot with JPMorgan’s Kinexys, RLUSD did the bridging, the banks handled the cash leg, and XRP covered the network fee [6]. Ondo said the XRP Ledger processed the asset leg of that pilot in under five seconds [7].
crypto.news reported on 25 September 2026 that Ripple’s Payments page says businesses can settle in RLUSD, USDC, USDT or fiat, and that Ripple describes its settlement layer as “decoupled from any single issuer’s token” [5]. Whether a stablecoin can serve as the common hub instead of XRP is compared in whether there is another neutral bridge asset as good as XRP.
Is there measured evidence of a bridge network effect on XRPL?
Evernorth reported that trades between two non-XRP assets were 18% of XRPL DEX trades and roughly 9% of value in Q2 2026 [2]. It reported RLUSD balances on XRPL averaging $539 million in Q2 2026, up from $73 million a year earlier, and argued that deeper stablecoin balances raise the size of the payments and tokenized-asset transactions the ledger can settle [2].
CoinDesk reported on 13 March 2026 that XRPL activity was increasingly driven by RLUSD and tokenized assets that flow through XRP as a bridge currency but do not create sustained demand for the token [4]. CCN reported on 20 August 2026 that billions of dollars can move across XRPL without creating substantial fee demand or meaningfully reducing XRP’s supply [3].
A network effect would show XRP trading and bridge volume rising as assets and pools are added. The Evernorth series show pools up and trading through them down, and fewer assets trading against XRP. No source measures bridge routes through XRP against asset count, so a bridge network effect on XRPL is not demonstrated as of Q2 2026.
What is the strongest evidence against the more-assets argument?
The sharpest point comes from Ripple’s own CEO. crypto.news reported on 25 September 2026 that in a 22 January 2026 interview, Brad Garlinghouse said “XRP is the best bridge asset” could be the answer for one transaction and that in some cases “a stablecoin is going to solve that problem better” [5]. crypto.news noted the statement was conditional and did not say stablecoins are universally better [5].
The 10 June 2026 Yahoo Finance article reported that buying a tokenized Treasury on XRPL does not require buying XRP [6]. The same article gave the counterpoint: if tokenized assets start trading on-ledger rather than only being recorded there, XRP liquidity would get used in the process [6].
The case that direct stablecoin pairs route around XRP is set out in whether direct stablecoin pairs could make XRP unnecessary on its own ledger, and the broader question is covered in whether RLUSD and other stablecoins will replace XRP. The funding cost that a bridge asset is meant to reduce is examined in whether the cross-border prefunding problem is real.

What we reason Analysis
- Without a common hub, N assets need N × (N − 1) ÷ 2 direct markets: 45 for 10 assets, 4,950 for 100. With one hub, 100 assets need 99. This follows from arithmetic only.
- The arithmetic favours having one hub, not XRP in particular; a dollar stablecoin can fill the same role. This follows from the pair count and from the RLUSD settlement roles reported by Ripple (9 June 2026) and Yahoo Finance (10 June 2026).
- Asset count on XRPL rose in 2026 while Evernorth’s count of assets XRP trades against fell and trading through XRP pools fell, so by these measures the number of deep XRP spokes did not grow with the number of assets. This rests on the Blockworks figures reported by CCN, plus the RWA.xyz and Evernorth figures above.
- No source shows XRP bridge volume rising as assets are added, so a bridge network effect on XRPL is not demonstrated as of Q2 2026. This rests on the Evernorth pool, pair-count and non-XRP trade figures.

In plain English
A bridge asset is something you swap into and back out of when two currencies have no direct market between them. The more currencies and tokens exist, the more direct markets would be needed, so a shared go-between looks more useful. That only works if the go-between is easy to trade against each of them. Reports published in 2026 show more stablecoins on the XRP Ledger, but fewer assets trading against XRP and less trading through XRP pools. Dollar stablecoins such as RLUSD are also doing some of the go-between work themselves.
