Short answer
Yes, by Ripple’s own account and press reports. Ripple said on 5 November 2025 that Ripple Prime was expanding into collateralized lending for XRP, and crypto.news reported on 8 July 2026 that Prime accepts XRP as margin collateral inside its own brokerage. The amount of XRP collateral, the haircut and client terms were not public as of 30 September 2026.
The full answer
What has Ripple said about XRP as collateral at Ripple Prime?
Ripple Prime is the prime broker Ripple bought under the name Hidden Road. Ripple announced the $1.25 billion purchase on 8 April 2025. At the time, Ripple said Hidden Road cleared $3 trillion a year for more than 300 institutional customers [2]. crypto.news reported that the deal closed in October 2025 and that the business was rebranded Ripple Prime [3]. The page on what Ripple Prime is and how big it is covers the business itself.
Ripple’s own statement on XRP came on 5 November 2025. Its funding announcement said RLUSD “is already in use as collateral” at Ripple Prime and that client collateral had doubled since the deal was announced. It also said “Ripple Prime is now expanding into collateralized lending for XRP” [1]. That is a company statement about expansion. It does not disclose loan volumes.
How does borrowing against XRP at Ripple Prime work?
ICO Bench, writing in May 2026, reported that Ripple Prime CEO Mike Higgins said on 12 May 2026 that XRP is positioned as institutional-grade collateral alongside Bitcoin, Ethereum and Solana [4]. The same report said Higgins described institutions posting “XRP as good margin” rather than selling it for dollars. ICO Bench set out the model this way: a firm pledges an XRP position to Ripple Prime as collateral, receives financing against it, and puts that money into basis trades, ETF hedges or CME futures positions [4].
ICO Bench also wrote that Ripple Prime “reportedly” accepts XRP alongside US Treasuries, fiat, gold, Bitcoin and BlackRock money market funds. It said a $200 million revolving facility with Neuberger Specialty Finance gives Ripple Prime balance-sheet capacity to fund client positions backed by that collateral [4].
crypto.news stated on 8 July 2026 that Ripple Prime accepts XRP as collateral for margin and settlement within its own brokerage [3]. Benzinga reported on 24 June 2026 that Higgins said RLUSD is becoming part of the firm’s settlement and collateral strategy, and that Ripple Prime plans to add more collateral types [5]. Whether posted XRP can offset positions across several venues is covered on cross-margining XRP through Ripple Prime.
The lending terms are not public. ICO Bench noted that collateral eligibility in prime brokerage requires custody agreements, defined haircuts, real-time valuation, liquidation procedures and risk-committee approval [4]. The question of how much can be borrowed against XRP and who sets the haircut has its own page.
Who can open a Ripple Prime account, and what are the minimums?
Ripple describes Ripple Prime as a global, multi-asset prime brokerage for institutional customers [1]. The cited Bitnomial announcement (3 November 2025) excerpt says retail traders will gain access to RLUSD and XRP margin deposits; the excerpt reviewed gives no evidence on account minimums, eligibility criteria or fees.
For an individual holder, the closest item in the project’s sources is at another firm. Bitnomial said on 3 November 2025 that XRP margin deposits were available for institutional clients on its exchange. It also said retail traders “will gain access” through its retail platform, Botanical [6]. Its announcement also said retail traders “will gain access” to RLUSD and XRP margin deposits (Company-reported) [6]. That retail line was a plan stated by Bitnomial in its own announcement. The cited announcement, dated 3 November 2025, states the retail line as a plan (“will gain access”), and as of October 2, 2026 I could not find any confirmation that it went live. Options for individuals are covered on borrowing RLUSD against XRP.
How does Ripple Prime’s crypto financing compare with other prime brokers that accept crypto?
The project’s sources hold no collateral terms from other crypto prime brokers. A like-for-like comparison of haircuts or rates is therefore not possible. Two points of comparison exist.
Bitnomial runs a CFTC-regulated derivatives exchange and clearinghouse. It called this an extension of its partnership with Ripple [6].
A Yahoo Finance article reported that Kroll gave Ripple Prime a BBB investment-grade rating in April 2026. The article said no other crypto-affiliated prime broker currently has that [7]. The wider picture of where XRP counts as margin is on XRP as margin for futures, options and perpetuals.
Is there a conflict of interest when Ripple’s broker lends against an asset Ripple holds and sells?
crypto.news wrote on 8 July 2026 that the current arrangement is “Ripple’s own brokerage accepting Ripple’s own asset” and that the path “mostly runs in a circle.” It added that the market has learned to discount announcements in which Ripple is both counterparties [3]. The same article said Ripple funds its buildout substantially from escrowed XRP, and that Ripple Prime’s revenues belong to Ripple’s shareholders, not to XRP [3].
Protos reported in 2025 that Ripple announced plans to “sunset” its quarterly reports and change the way it reports its XRP holdings [8]. The money behind the broker is covered on how Ripple Prime has been funded.
What is the strongest evidence against reading this as large-scale XRP credit?
crypto.news concluded on 8 July 2026 that at Ripple Prime, “collateral is real but largely internal.” It also found that settlement inside Ripple’s product stack runs predominantly on RLUSD, not XRP [3]. It named the first signal of change as a brokerage or clearing venue that Ripple does not own announcing that it accepts XRP as margin collateral [3].
ICO Bench listed what it could not confirm as of May 2026. The list included whether the Neuberger facility had been drawn in material size and whether risk committees at large banks had formally approved XRP as eligible collateral [4].
The amount of XRP collateral outstanding at Ripple Prime is not disclosed. The page on measuring credit created against XRP sets out what can and cannot be counted.

What we reason Analysis
- Acceptance of XRP at Ripple Prime is supported by Ripple’s November 2025 statement and crypto.news’s July 2026 report, while its scale is not supported by any disclosed figure. This follows from Ripple’s 5 November 2025 release, crypto.news (8 July 2026) and ICO Bench (May 2026).
- Bitnomial’s November 2025 announcement came before crypto.news named third-party acceptance of XRP margin as the first signal of change in July 2026. Whether a venue that describes itself as a Ripple partner meets that test is a judgement the sources do not settle. This follows from Bitnomial (3 November 2025) and crypto.news (8 July 2026).
- Because Ripple runs the broker and also funds its buildout from escrowed XRP, acceptance of XRP at Ripple Prime alone does not show that outside institutions treat XRP as collateral. This follows from crypto.news (8 July 2026).
What's still open
- As of 30 September 2026, the amount of XRP collateral posted at Ripple Prime and the dollar credit extended against it are not disclosed. Searched: Ripple’s November 2025 and April 2025 releases, crypto.news (8 July 2026), ICO Bench (May 2026), Benzinga (24 June 2026).
- As of 30 September 2026, I could not find any published haircut or loan-to-value for XRP at Ripple Prime.
- As of 30 September 2026, I could not find any account minimums or eligibility criteria for Ripple Prime.
- As of May 2026, ICO Bench could not confirm whether the Neuberger facility had been drawn in material size; no later source in the project answers this.
- As of 30 September 2026, I could not find any confirmation that Bitnomial’s planned retail access to XRP margin deposits went live.
- As of 30 September 2026, I could not find any source describing how Ripple Prime separates XRP lending decisions from Ripple’s own XRP holdings or sales.
In plain English
Ripple Prime is a firm owned by Ripple that provides trading and financing services to large institutions. Ripple said in November 2025 that Prime was expanding into lending against XRP, and a news site reported in July 2026 that Prime accepts XRP as security for trading. The idea is that a firm can keep its XRP and still borrow dollars to trade. Nobody has published how much has been lent this way or on what terms, and critics point out that Ripple’s own broker taking Ripple’s own coin says little about whether outside firms will do the same.
