Collateral

Plain definition. Collateral was a firm that offered peer-to-peer style investments, and its directors fraudulently made it look as though the firm held permission from the Financial Conduct Authority.

Technical definition. Collateral offered peer-to-peer style investments, and its directors fraudulently changed the firm’s public entry on the FCA’s interim permission register. The change made it look as though Collateral held FCA interim permission to undertake consumer credit activities, when it did not. In July 2023 the directors were sentenced to a total of 8 years imprisonment for their role in the fraud, the FCA said.
