Is institutional capital actually flowing into XRP in 2026?
Also asked as: “Is capital migration into XRP happening now?” · “Are XRP and XRPL becoming part of mainstream finance?” · “Which XRP metrics have shown exponential-like growth?”

Short answer
Yes, in measurable amounts, though the fastest growth is in stablecoins and tokenized assets on the XRP Ledger rather than in XRP. Evernorth reported US spot XRP ETFs took in $273 million in Q2 2026. CCN, citing Blockworks, reported XRP fell 20% that quarter while ledger stablecoin supply rose 195%.

Which measures show capital arriving in 2026?
Five channels have dated figures. They measure different things, so they cannot be added into one total.
Funds that hold XRP. Evernorth, the XRP treasury company preparing to list on Nasdaq [2], reported that US spot XRP ETFs took in $273 million in Q2 2026, with net inflows in all three months [1]. CoinDesk reported the same figure. It noted that the funds give institutions a route into XRP that does not require holding the token [2].
CCN reported that global XRP exchange-traded products drew $253.6 million in net inflows in Q2 2026, up 45% from Q1. Over the same quarter their assets under management fell 17% to $1.99 billion because of the price decline [3]. One figure covers US spot funds and the other covers global products. The sources do not reconcile the two.
Messari, as reported by crypto.news, said US spot XRP ETFs held 775.4 million XRP at the end of Q1 2026. That was 1.26% of circulating supply and 1.9% more than the previous quarter [4]. How the holding moved after that is tracked on the page about how much XRP the US spot ETFs hold.
Disclosed institutional owners. Tron Weekly, writing on edgeX on 21 August 2026, reported that Goldman Sachs disclosed $86.5 million of XRP ETF exposure across five products in its Q2 2026 13F filing [5]. Goldman had fully exited the funds in the previous quarter. Its earlier holdings were valued at about $152 million before that exit [5]. The same report said JPMorgan, Morgan Stanley and Bank of America also disclosed XRP ETF positions. It also noted that 13F filings do not separate proprietary holdings from positions kept for clients or for market making [5]. The limits of these filings are covered in who owns XRP ETFs and what 13F filings show.
Dollar liquidity on the ledger. Evernorth reported that RLUSD balances on the XRP Ledger averaged $539 million in Q2 2026, against $73 million a year earlier. Over that year the ledger’s share of all RLUSD rose from 20% to 34%, while stablecoin supply across the industry contracted [1]. CCN, citing Blockworks, reported three Q2 changes [3]:
- XRPL-native stablecoin supply rose 195% to $825.5 million.
- Stablecoin transfer volume rose 208% to about $10 billion.
- RLUSD made up about $9 billion of that volume, up from $2.6 billion in Q1.
DefiLlama’s XRPL page showed $1.213 billion in stablecoins on 29 September 2026, with RLUSD at 92.46% [6].
Tokenized assets. CoinDesk, reporting Evernorth data, said tokenized assets on the ledger averaged $3.72 billion in Q2 2026. With RLUSD added, value held on the network reached about $4.26 billion, against $99 million six quarters earlier [2]. CCN, citing Blockworks, put represented tokenized value at a record $4.46 billion in Q2, up 103% from Q1. Over the same quarter, freely transferable (“distributed”) tokenized assets fell 5% to $386.1 million [3]. On 29 September 2026, RWA.xyz showed $4.10 billion represented and $498.71 million distributed [7].
XRP put to work on another chain. Flare describes FXRP as a 1:1 representation of XRP [8]. Flare reported that FXRP in DeFi grew from 82 million to 144 million between February and July 2026. On 24 September 2026 it counted about 145.2 million FXRP minted, with 130 million in DeFi [8]. By Flare’s own figures, FXRP in DeFi was about 14 million lower in late September than in July [8]. How much of the XRP bought is used rather than held is covered on how much XRP institutions hold and put to work.
How much of the inflow is into XRP itself versus stablecoins and tokenized assets on its ledger?
Most of the large ledger figures are not XRP. Evernorth’s “value held” measure combines RLUSD balances and tokenized assets. Evernorth excludes stablecoins from its tokenized series so that RLUSD is not counted twice [1]. CoinDesk said RLUSD accounted for much of the recent increase [2]. Analytics Insight noted that growing dollar liquidity can support settlement and trading without requiring participants to hold equivalent exposure to XRP’s price [10].
The channels that do hold XRP are the ETFs and FXRP. These grew more slowly in percentage terms than the dollar channels. US spot ETF holdings rose 1.9% in Q1 2026 [4], against a 195% rise in ledger stablecoin supply in Q2 [3].
Who is selling the XRP that ETFs and treasury companies are buying?
Who sold the XRP is a separate question. As of September 30, 2026, no public source identifies who sold XRP to the ETFs or to treasury companies. According to a Tron Weekly report (Aug 21, 2026) on Goldman Sachs’ 13F filings, the bank fully exited its XRP ETF positions in the quarter before Q2 2026 and returned with a smaller position in its Q2 2026 filing, about $86.5 million versus about $152 million previously [5]. For how fund shares turn into XRP purchases, see how XRP ETF creations and redemptions work. Evernorth’s holdings have their own page: what Evernorth is.
Does the ledger data show institutions replacing retail users?
The data shows activity concentrating, but it does not show who is behind it.
Evernorth reported that order-book trading on the ledger reached 3.57 million XRP a day in Q2 2026, 79% above a year earlier [1]. Over the same period, the number of accounts initiating those trades fell from 1,864 to 1,111 a day. Each of those accounts traded 3,217 XRP a day, against 1,072 a year earlier [1]. Evernorth also reported that accounts transacting averaged 16,587 a day and new accounts 2,783 a day, both down about 25% from a year earlier [1].
CoinDesk noted that an account is not necessarily one person. For that reason, the data cannot show whether institutions are replacing retail traders [2]. Analytics Insight cited a Bitquery review that attributed 93.2% of August 2026 transaction traffic to 793 accounts and described substantial automated order activity [10]. The same article said institutions commonly automate trading, so automation alone does not invalidate economic activity [10].
What is the strongest evidence against the inflow reading?
The price moved the other way. CCN reported that XRP closed Q2 2026 at $1.04, down 20% [3]. It said billions of dollars can move across the ledger without creating substantial fee demand or reducing XRP’s supply. It concluded that adoption of the ledger and appreciation of the token remain two separate stories [3].
In March 2026, CoinDesk made the structural case. It wrote that ledger activity is increasingly driven by RLUSD and tokenized assets that flow through XRP as a bridge currency but do not create sustained demand for the token [9]. It also reported the ledger’s total value locked in DeFi at $47.54 million at that time [9].
Two further points cut against a simple “capital is pouring in” reading. The largest disclosed holder cut its position before rebuilding it at a smaller size [5]. Most tokenized value on the ledger is represented rather than freely transferable [3][7].
The full counter-case is on why XRP’s price is not rising. Whether the spending runs ahead of use is examined in is money going into XRP infrastructure ahead of real demand. The quarter-by-quarter record is on what happened in each quarter of 2026.
What we know
- In Q2 2026, US spot XRP ETFs took in $273 million, with net inflows in all three months (Evernorth, September 2, 2026).
- In Q2 2026, global XRP exchange-traded products drew $253.6 million in net inflows, up 45% from Q1, while their assets under management fell 17% to $1.99 billion because of the price decline (CCN, August 20, 2026).
- At the end of Q1 2026, US spot XRP ETFs held 775.4 million XRP, 1.26% of circulating supply and 1.9% more than the previous quarter (Messari, reported by crypto.news).
- Q2 2026 13F: Goldman Sachs disclosed $86.5 million of XRP ETF exposure across five products after fully exiting the funds in the previous quarter. Its earlier holdings were valued at about $152 million (Tron Weekly on edgeX, August 21, 2026).
- In Q2 2026, RLUSD balances on the XRP Ledger averaged $539 million, against $73 million a year earlier, and the ledger’s share of all RLUSD rose from 20% to 34% (Evernorth, September 2, 2026).
- In Q2 2026, XRPL-native stablecoin supply rose 195% to $825.5 million, and XRP closed the quarter at $1.04, down 20% (CCN citing Blockworks, August 20, 2026).
- On September 29, 2026, stablecoins on the XRP Ledger totalled $1.213 billion, with RLUSD at 92.46% (DefiLlama).
- In Q2 2026, value held on the XRP Ledger, meaning tokenized assets plus RLUSD, averaged about $4.26 billion, against $99 million six quarters earlier (CoinDesk, reporting Evernorth data, September 5, 2026).
- 24 September 2026: about 145.2 million FXRP minted, with 130 million in DeFi. FXRP in DeFi was 144 million in July (Flare).
- Blockworks said in its State of XRP report for the second quarter of 2026 that CME’s XRP futures recorded $10.80 billion in notional volume and average daily volume of 36.6 thousand contracts, and that open interest hit a record 14.8 thousand contracts on April 6. CoinDesk reported on September 1, 2026 that CME open interest rose about 36%, from roughly 284 million to 387 million XRP, lifting CME’s share of outstanding XRP futures exposure to about 17% from about 10% in mid-August; no public source reviewed here gives CME’s first quarter 2026 volume figures as of September 30, 2026.
What we reason Analysis
- None of the $4.26 billion ‘value held’ figure is XRP. This follows from Evernorth’s method, which counts RLUSD balances and tokenized assets and excludes stablecoins from the tokenized series, and from CoinDesk’s statement that RLUSD accounted for much of the recent increase.
- Dollar liquidity kept growing in Q3. XRPL stablecoin supply rose about 47%, from $825.5 million on 30 June (Blockworks via CCN) to $1.213 billion on 29 September (DefiLlama). The two figures come from different providers, so the percentage is approximate.
- The channels that hold XRP itself grew more slowly in percentage terms than the dollar and tokenized-asset channels. US spot ETF holdings rose 1.9% in Q1 (Messari), while ledger stablecoin supply rose 195% in Q2 (Blockworks via CCN). The periods differ, so this comparison is rough.
- Every net purchase of XRP by a fund or company has a seller on the other side. No public source identifies who those sellers were.
- Capital is arriving through several channels at once while the price fell. Whether it creates lasting demand for XRP as working liquidity is the unresolved point. This weighs the ETF, stablecoin and tokenized-asset figures above against the CoinDesk and CCN critiques.
What's still open
- Q3 2026 net flows and quarter-end XRP holdings for US spot XRP ETFs: no public source gave them as of September 30, 2026. removed
- Q3 2026 13F filings: managers file within 45 days of quarter-end, so Q3 positions were not yet public on September 30, 2026.
- Who sold the XRP that ETFs and treasury companies bought: no public source identifies them as of September 30, 2026.
- Ripple Prime financing and Bitwise XRP fund growth figures: no public source confirming them was found as of September 30, 2026.
In plain English
Money is arriving around XRP in 2026, but most of the growth is in digital dollars and tokenized assets that use the XRP Ledger rather than in XRP itself. Funds that hold XRP drew in hundreds of millions of dollars in the second quarter. Dollar tokens on the ledger roughly tripled in that quarter and kept growing after it. XRP’s price fell over the same period, so more activity has not yet meant a higher price. Nobody has yet shown whether this money will create lasting demand for XRP itself.
