Is money going into XRP infrastructure ahead of real demand?
Also asked as: “Are institutions just positioning for possible future XRP use?” · “Is XRP capital following real usage or hoping for it?” · “Is the XRP market still funding a vision before infrastructure exists?”

Short answer
Partly: capacity is being funded ahead of measured use. Crypto Times reported on August 19, 2026 that Ripple Prime raised $475 million in debt in about three months. Ripple said in a press release that Prime’s client collateral had doubled since the Hidden Road deal was announced.
The full answer
This page separates three things that often get blended together: money promised to XRP-related infrastructure, money shown to have been spent, and use that someone has actually measured. The answer is an Analysis built on those records. How use itself is measured is covered on how you measure how much XRP is actually being used.
None of the cited sources report drawdown figures.
What has been committed, deployed and used, in separate columns?
“Committed” means an amount raised, announced or promised. “Deployed” means money shown as spent. “Used” means activity someone has measured. A blank means no figure was found in the sources held as of September 30, 2026.

Crypto Times reported on August 19, 2026 that Ripple Prime had raised $475 million in debt financing in about three months [1]. The funding history is covered in more detail on how Ripple Prime has been funded, and the next quarter’s items are tracked on the XRP and Ripple pipeline for Q4 2026.
What usage was already reported before the new money arrived?
Ripple said on November 5, 2025 that since the Hidden Road deal was announced, Ripple Prime’s client collateral had doubled, average daily transactions had climbed to more than 60 million, and the business had tripled in size [2]. In the same release Ripple said RLUSD was already in use as collateral at Ripple Prime, and that Ripple Prime was expanding into collateralized lending for XRP [2]. Ripple also said total Ripple Payments volumes had surpassed $95 billion as of that date [2].
ICOBench reported in May 2026 that Ripple Prime reportedly accepts XRP alongside US Treasuries, fiat, gold, bitcoin and BlackRock money market funds as eligible collateral, and that Ripple Prime CEO Mike Higgins said on May 12, 2026 that XRP is positioned as institutional-grade collateral [3]. ICOBench also quoted Higgins’s own caveat that “we’re still early on in the space” [3].
What is the new capacity meant to do?
Crypto Times reported that the $275 million notes will help Ripple Prime expand its multi-asset clearing, financing and prime brokerage services in the US [1]. The company said the decision to increase the offering’s size showed that demand was higher than first planned, according to the same report [1].
Evernorth said on October 20, 2025 that net proceeds would primarily fund open-market purchases of XRP, with a portion for working capital, and that it seeks to grow XRP per share through institutional lending, liquidity provisioning and DeFi yield [4]. The same October 20, 2025 announcement said Evernorth had executed a business combination agreement with Armada Acquisition Corp II and that the transaction was expected to raise over $1 billion in gross proceeds [4]. Yahoo Finance reported on October 1, 2026 that the September 30 vote clears a major transaction hurdle but should not be confused with the merger actually closing [20]. Evernorth’s January 8, 2026 agreement with Doppler Finance was a relationship “to explore potential collaboration”, including the design and pilot of institutional liquidity and treasury use cases [7]. Yahoo Finance reported in March 2026 that the XRP Ledger’s native lending protocol had not fully launched and that the DeFi pools and options strategies in Evernorth’s filing were plans on paper [6]. The current status is tracked on whether native lending is live on the XRP Ledger.
Ripple said on August 3, 2026 that its ZILO and Licuido deals bring regulated transfer agency, issuance and collateral mobility to its infrastructure on the XRP Ledger [8].
Each stated purpose here (lending capacity, working capital, XRP purchases, collateral mobility) adds capacity to put capital to work. None of these statements is a measure of volume already running through that capacity.
What would show capacity being left unused?
ICOBench framed the open question in May 2026 as whether the Neuberger facility and Ripple Prime’s build-out are an operational collateral system already in use, or a framework still needing regulatory and counterparty approvals [3]. Its bear case was that conservative bank risk committees decline to approve XRP as collateral, which would stall the model at the pilot stage [3]. Yahoo Finance noted that Evernorth’s SPAC shareholders can redeem their shares, which would reduce the capital Evernorth has to buy XRP [6].
The signs of idle capacity would be facility drawdowns that stay undisclosed or small, Evernorth yield strategies that remain at the “explore” stage, and Ripple reporting growth in RLUSD and fiat collateral without any XRP figure. Each of these can be checked against later disclosures.
What is the strongest case that this money is not about XRP demand?
crypto.news argued on July 25, 2026 that Ripple’s acquired businesses run primarily on fiat, traditional assets and RLUSD, which means the company has built a path to institutional success that does not require XRP demand [10]. The same audit said the funds behind those acquisitions came in substantial part from years of programmatic XRP sales [10]. ICOBench reported in May 2026 that institutional views on XRP were divided, with record short exposure on Binance alongside spot accumulation [3]. This view is set out further on whether institutional capital is actually flowing into XRP.
On this reading, the infrastructure is being built ahead of demand in general, and XRP is one asset among several that it can carry. Crypto Times reported that Ripple Prime’s revenue is concentrated in spread-based financing and is sensitive to balance-sheet size [1]. That would explain why a prime broker raises debt capacity whatever mix of assets its clients post.

What we reason Analysis
- Funding followed reported use at Ripple Prime: Ripple’s November 2025 figures on client collateral and transactions came before the May and August 2026 debt raises. This follows from the dates in [1] and [2].
- Funded capacity is larger than publicly measured use: $475 million of Ripple Prime debt and Evernorth’s expected $1 billion raise are stated, while no drawdown or yield-deployment amount appears in the sources held. This follows from [1], [3], [4] and [6].
- Commitments whose stated purpose is lending capacity, working capital or collateral mobility are leading indicators of capacity, not proof of future XRP volume. This follows from the stated purposes in [1], [4] and [8].
- Much of the new capacity is not specific to XRP. Ripple Prime is multi-asset and RLUSD already serves as collateral there, so money going into this infrastructure is not the same as money waiting on XRP demand. This follows from [1], [2] and [10].
What's still open
- How much of the $200 million Neuberger facility has been drawn? No public figure was available as of September 30, 2026.
- What share of Ripple Prime’s client collateral, or of Ripple Payments volume, is XRP? No public breakdown was available as of September 30, 2026.
- Will Evernorth’s business combination close on October 7, 2026, so that XRPN becomes Evernorth Holdings’ Class A stock on October 8, as the company expects?
- As of September 30, 2026, Ripple had not published amounts for its investments in ZILO and Licuido [8] or for the Ripple and Ondo liquidity commitments to OUSG [9].
- How much Evernorth XRP has been deployed into lending, liquidity provision or DeFi? No amount was public as of September 30, 2026.
In plain English
Companies around XRP have raised money to lend, trade and hold more of it. Ripple’s prime broker borrowed $475 million in 2026, and a company called Evernorth planned to raise over $1 billion, mostly to buy XRP. Some use was already visible before this money came in, according to Ripple’s own figures. As of September 30, 2026, no figure was found in the sources held for how much of the Ripple Prime facilities has been drawn or how much Evernorth XRP has been deployed into lending or DeFi, though Yahoo Finance reported $214.1 million already spent on XRP purchases. So the pipes are being built a little ahead of the water, and the water is only partly measured.
