Can companies get repo financing through Ripple Treasury?
Also asked as: “Can corporations access repo through Ripple Treasury?” · “Must a corporation sell assets to get digital liquidity?”

Short answer
Ripple says companies can, but no repo carried out through Ripple Treasury has been reported as of October 3, 2026. Ripple Treasury’s January 2026 launch post lists overnight secured repo from Ripple Prime, using RLUSD and U.S. Treasury securities as backing. That is Ripple’s own description of the offering, not proof of completed deals.
The full answer
What does Ripple Treasury say it offers for repo?
Ripple Treasury’s launch post, published in January 2026 ahead of a January 28 webinar, lists a set of cash tools under the heading “Ripple Treasury Solution” [1]. The first is Ripple Prime “for overnight secured repo markets with Ripple’s stablecoin, RLUSD, collateral and U.S. Treasury backing.” The second is tokenized money market funds such as BlackRock’s BUIDL, which the post describes as having daily NAV and same-day redemption. The third is a Ripple MMF Portal on the XRP Ledger for one-click investment with instant redemption. The post says all of these are accessible directly in GTreasury with policy-based controls and full audit trails [1].
No volumes or terms were found as of September 30, 2026.
Ripple Treasury is the product Ripple built on GTreasury, which Ripple acquired in 2025, according to Ripple’s April 1, 2026 release [2]. In a repo, securities can be used as collateral against a cash loan, as CaptainAltcoin explained in September 2026 [3]. crypto.news reported that Ripple agreed in April 2025 to pay $1.25 billion, partly in XRP, for Hidden Road, a prime broker [4]. BlackRock’s connection to the ledger is covered on the page What does BlackRock have to do with XRP?.
Is the repo connection live, or still announced?
Ripple’s April 1, 2026 release announced the launch of Ripple Treasury with digital-asset capabilities, naming Digital Asset Accounts and Unified Treasury as the first two in its digital-asset framework [2]. It named Digital Asset Accounts and Unified Treasury as the first two capabilities in Ripple Treasury’s digital-asset framework. It said the framework “will soon expand” to connect with Ripple products that enable cross-border and intercompany settlement and “24/7 yield on idle cash through overnight repo” [2].
Read together, the two Ripple documents show repo listed in January 2026 and described as a coming step on April 1, 2026. Ripple Treasury’s pages state that it offers overnight secured repo market access through Ripple Prime, with Ripple’s stablecoin RLUSD as collateral, alongside tokenized money market funds and other yield vehicles. I could not find a dated statement that the repo connection went live, as of October 2, 2026. The same gap between announcement and product is tracked across the ledger in Are XRPL institutional announcements actually becoming live products?.
Is this borrowing, or a place to put idle cash?
Ripple’s April 2026 release calls the feature “24/7 yield on idle cash through overnight repo” [2]. Ripple’s November 5, 2025 funding release said GTreasury manages trillions of dollars of volume for Fortune 500 customers who are keen to “put their idle capital to work” [5]. In that framing the corporate supplies cash and earns a return, rather than borrowing against its own assets. The November release also said RLUSD is already in use as collateral at Ripple Prime [5].
ICObench reported in May 2026 that under Ripple Prime’s model a firm holding a large XRP position can pledge it to Ripple Prime as collateral, receive financing against it and deploy that liquidity without triggering a taxable sale [6]. ICObench also wrote that Ripple Prime reportedly accepts XRP alongside U.S. Treasuries, fiat, gold, Bitcoin and BlackRock money market funds as eligible collateral [6]. Whether it reaches corporate treasurers through Ripple Treasury, and on what terms, is listed under open questions. How tokenized Treasuries and fund shares can be pledged for cash more generally is covered in Can tokenized Treasuries and funds be turned into cash or credit?.
What rates and haircuts does the overnight repo carry, and who is the counterparty?
I could not find any rates, haircuts or counterparty terms for repo through Ripple Treasury as of September 30, 2026. The launch post names Ripple Prime as the channel, with RLUSD, collateral and U.S. Treasury backing [1].
ICObench wrote in May 2026 that in prime brokerage, collateral eligibility requires custody agreements, defined haircuts, real-time valuation oracles, liquidation procedures and risk-committee approval at every counterparty in the chain [6]. Those are the terms a corporate treasurer would need in writing before comparing this repo with any other.
On funding, ICObench reported a $200 million revolving facility from Neuberger Specialty Finance that gives Ripple Prime balance-sheet capacity to fund client positions. It said it could not confirm whether the facility had been drawn against in material size [6].
How much repo has actually been done through Ripple Treasury?
I could not find any repo volume through Ripple Treasury as of September 30, 2026. Ripple said Ripple Treasury handled $13 trillion in payments volume in 2025 [2]. CaptainAltcoin’s September 10, 2026 rumour check noted that this does not mean $13 trillion was settled using XRP [3]. The case against reading such totals as flows into XRP is set out in Do Ripple’s trillion-dollar figures mean trillions are flowing into XRP?. Volumes from other tokenized repo and collateral networks are the subject of How big is tokenized repo and collateral movement on other platforms?.
What risks does a corporate take in crypto-linked repo compared with bank repo?
Ripple’s description of the repo channel names RLUSD [1]. RLUSD is issued by Standard Custody & Trust Company, a Ripple subsidiary, under a limited-purpose trust company charter granted by the NYDFS, according to Ripple’s guide for institutions [7]. Ripple says RLUSD’s reserves are held in cash, short-term U.S. Treasuries and cash equivalents, with BNY Mellon as a reserve custodian. Ripple also says the OCC approval it received in late 2025 for Ripple National Trust Bank is conditional, “one step in a multi-stage federal chartering process, not a completed charter” [7].
This comparison covers structure only; pricing is left to the open questions.
The strongest critique comes from crypto.news in July 2026. It described Ripple Prime accepting XRP as collateral, Ripple’s stablecoin settling Ripple’s pilots and Ripple’s ledger hosting Ripple’s products as “impressive and self-referential,” and wrote that the market “has learned to discount announcements in which Ripple is both counterparties” [4]. ICObench left open in May 2026 whether Ripple Prime’s infrastructure is an operational collateral system already in use or a framework still requiring regulatory and counterparty approvals [6].
Does any of this involve XRP?
The repo line in the launch post names RLUSD and U.S. Treasury backing, not XRP [1]. Ripple Treasury shows XRP and RLUSD balances in the same account structure as cash, according to Ripple’s April 1, 2026 release [2], and the launch post says the platform reports across XRP holdings [1].
crypto.news found in July 2026 that inside Ripple’s own product stack the asset doing settlement work is predominantly RLUSD, not XRP. It put the present-day XRP demand from Ripple Prime’s business at “a sliver” [4]. The skeptics it cites do not deny the infrastructure is real; they deny that ownership of infrastructure by the token’s issuer, without third-party adoption, is token demand [4]. The routes by which a company could end up handling XRP are covered in How could a corporate treasurer end up using XRP?.
What we know
- January 2026: Ripple Treasury’s launch post lists Ripple Prime for overnight secured repo markets with RLUSD, collateral and U.S. Treasury backing, tokenized money market funds such as BlackRock BUIDL, and a Ripple MMF Portal on the XRP Ledger, all accessible in GTreasury [1].
- April 1, 2026: Ripple named Digital Asset Accounts and Unified Treasury as the first two capabilities of Ripple Treasury’s digital-asset framework and said the framework will soon expand to connect with Ripple products that enable 24/7 yield on idle cash through overnight repo [2].
- November 5, 2025: Ripple said RLUSD is already in use as collateral at Ripple Prime and that GTreasury’s Fortune 500 customers are keen to put their idle capital to work [5].
- May 2026: ICObench reported that Ripple Prime’s model lets a firm pledge an XRP position as collateral and receive financing without a taxable sale, that Ripple Prime reportedly accepts U.S. Treasuries, fiat, gold, Bitcoin and BlackRock money market funds as collateral, and that it could not confirm whether the $200 million Neuberger facility had been drawn in material size [6].
- July 8, 2026: crypto.news reported that Ripple Prime clears more than $3 trillion in trades a year for over 300 institutional clients, that settlement inside Ripple’s product stack is predominantly RLUSD, and that the share becoming XRP demand today is a sliver [4].
- As of September 2026, Ripple’s institutional guide says RLUSD is issued by a Ripple subsidiary under an NYDFS limited-purpose trust charter, and that its late-2025 OCC approval is conditional, not a completed charter [7].
- September 10, 2026: CaptainAltcoin noted that the $13 trillion in payments Ripple attributes to Ripple Treasury for 2025 does not mean $13 trillion was settled using XRP [3].
What we reason Analysis
- Ripple’s Treasury solutions page now states that Ripple Treasury unlocks 24/7 yield on idle cash through overnight repo, tokenized money market funds, and flexible yield vehicles, including secured repo market access through Ripple Prime, though the page carries no date; as of my check on October 2, 2026, I could not find a dated Ripple statement saying when that expansion went live. This follows from the launch post [1] and the April release [2].
- As Ripple describes it, the Treasury repo feature earns a return on spare cash, which makes the corporate a supplier of cash rather than a borrower against its own assets. This follows from the ‘yield on idle cash’ wording [2] and the ‘idle capital’ wording [5].
- A corporate using the feature as described would rely on Ripple companies at three points: the treasury software, the prime broker and the stablecoin issuer. This follows from [1], [2], [4] and [7].
- The repo line names RLUSD and U.S. Treasury backing and does not name XRP, so the feature as described does not by itself create XRP demand. This follows from [1] and crypto.news [4].
What's still open
- As of September 30, 2026, no repo volume, client count, rate, haircut or named counterparty has been published for repo through Ripple Treasury.
- As of September 30, 2026, Ripple had not announced that the overnight repo connection was live inside Ripple Treasury.
- Ripple’s Treasury pages state that Ripple Treasury offers secured repo market access through Ripple Prime, with RLUSD collateral, as one of several yield pathways for idle corporate cash. I could not find, as of October 2, 2026, any statement of the terms on which this financing is offered.
- As of September 30, 2026, I could not find terms for bank repo offered to corporates, so I make no price comparison.
In plain English
Repo is a loan of cash backed by securities. Ripple’s treasury software for companies lists an overnight repo option through Ripple’s broker, Ripple Prime, using Ripple’s dollar stablecoin and U.S. Treasuries. In April 2026 Ripple described that option as coming soon, and no published figures for how much has been done, or on what terms, were found. As Ripple describes it, the option is for earning a return on spare cash, not for borrowing, and it does not use XRP.
