What does BlackRock have to do with XRP?
Also asked as: “What does BlackRock have to do with XRP? †”

Short answer
BlackRock has indirect links to XRP, and no public filing or statement shows it holding or issuing an XRP product. Its money market funds are reportedly eligible collateral at Ripple Prime, and Ondo’s OUSG on the XRP Ledger is backed by BlackRock’s BUIDL fund. BlackRock also sits in the DTCC working group and the Open USD consortium with Ripple.

Where does BlackRock’s name appear next to XRP?
As of September 30, 2026, BlackRock appears next to XRP in four settings in the public reporting reviewed here.
The first is a tokenized fund. Yahoo Finance reported on June 10, 2026 that Ondo Finance runs OUSG, its Treasury fund backed by BlackRock’s BUIDL fund, on the XRP Ledger with 24/7 minting and redemption [1].
The second is a committee. crypto.news reported on July 8, 2026 that in May 2026 the DTCC named Ripple Prime to the roughly 50-firm working group shaping its tokenization service, alongside JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs, BlackRock and others [2].
The third is a collateral list.
The fourth is a stablecoin consortium. crypto.news reported on July 8, 2026 that RLUSD is Ripple’s ticket into the Open USD consortium alongside Visa, Mastercard, Stripe and BlackRock [2].
None of these four reports describes BlackRock buying, holding or issuing XRP.
Is BUIDL issued on the XRP Ledger, or only reachable through Ripple’s products?
The Yahoo Finance report describes OUSG on the ledger, a fund Ondo runs that is backed by BUIDL [1]. It does not say BUIDL itself is issued on the XRP Ledger, and no other cited source says so as of September 30, 2026.
The same report says OUSG mints and redeems in Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin, because an institutional product needs a stable, regulated settlement asset [1]. It also says buying a tokenized Treasury on the XRP Ledger does not require buying XRP, and that in the JPMorgan pilot RLUSD did the bridging, the banks handled the cash leg and XRP covered the network fee [1]. The wider picture of these funds is on the page about tokenized Treasuries on the XRP Ledger.
Ripple’s April 1, 2026 announcement said Ripple Treasury’s digital asset framework “will soon expand” to connecting with Ripple’s products for cross-border settlement and “24/7 yield on idle cash through overnight repo” [4]. That announcement does not name BUIDL. How the repo tools are meant to work is covered in whether companies can get repo financing through Ripple Treasury.
What does the shared DTCC working group mean?
crypto.news described the working-group seat on July 8, 2026 as “a chair at a standards table, not a contract”, noting that several members, most prominently JPMorgan with Kinexys, run their own competing tokenization ledgers [2]. The same report said the DTCC’s tokenization service is not built on the XRP Ledger, and that the service began limited production trades in July 2026 with a full launch planned for October [2]. Sitting on the same committee places BlackRock and Ripple Prime at one table. It does not place XRP inside BlackRock’s business.
Does BlackRock run an XRP ETF or hold XRP ETF shares?
Ripple’s own April 17, 2026 post listed the US spot XRP ETF issuers: REX-Osprey’s XRPR, live since 18 September; Canary Capital’s XRPC, which debuted on Nasdaq on 13 November; Bitwise’s XRP ETF on 20 November; Grayscale’s GXRP on NYSE Arca on 24 November; and Franklin Templeton’s XRPZ and 21Shares’ TOXR after that [5]. The same post said ARK Invest had allocated nearly 20% of its CoinDesk 20 ETF to XRP [5]. The full list, with fees, is on the page about which XRP ETFs exist.
On holders, Ripple said Goldman Sachs disclosed a $153.8 million position in spot XRP ETFs in its Q4 2025 13F filing, and that 13F filings showed 30 major institutions, including Millennium and Citadel, holding XRP ETF exposure [5]. Bitcoin.com reported that Goldman Sachs, Jane Street and Millennium Management led disclosed spot XRP ETF holders by dollar exposure in second-quarter 13F filings, followed by Intesa Sanpaolo with $14.42 million, Marex UK Holdings with $8.12 million and Ironbridge Private Wealth with $6.10 million [6]. Bitcoin.com wrote on September 9, 2026 that disclosed institutional ownership of XRP ETFs “remains thin and concentrated” [7].
BlackRock is not among the issuers Ripple named, and not among the holders either list names. What a 13F line can and cannot show is covered in who owns XRP ETFs and what 13F filings show.
What has BlackRock said publicly about XRP, on the record?
No public statement by BlackRock about XRP was found as of September 30, 2026. The searches covered reporting and filings that mention BlackRock, BUIDL, 13F filings and XRP ETFs.
The collateral report comes from ICO Bench, not from BlackRock or a Ripple Prime document [3]. ICO Bench itself listed what the data could not confirm, including whether risk committees at bulge-bracket banks had formally approved XRP as eligible collateral and whether the Neuberger facility had been drawn in material size [3].
What is the case that these links matter more, and what is the critique?
The case for weight: Yahoo Finance argued on June 10, 2026 that the upside for holders is indirect, because every billion in tokenized assets builds the case institutions use to justify ETF allocations [1]. ICO Bench wrote in May 2026 that Ripple Prime’s collateral claim was backed by a $200 million facility from Neuberger Specialty Finance and “active infrastructure discussions” with BlackRock, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, Nasdaq and the DTCC [3].
The critique: crypto.news wrote on July 8, 2026 that the market has learned to discount announcements in which Ripple is both counterparties [2]. CaptainAltcoin’s September 10, 2026 rumour check put the general rule plainly: “Connected to Ripple” does not mean “uses XRP,” and “ETF collateral” does not mean “Schwab bought XRP” [8]. The same test applies to BlackRock. Other circulating claims are tested on the page about viral XRP rumours.
What would show a direct link, and where can claims be checked?
crypto.news named concrete signals: a brokerage or clearing venue that Ripple does not own announcing it accepts XRP as margin collateral, and a named role for the XRP Ledger in the DTCC build [2]. For BlackRock specifically, a direct link would show up as a BlackRock filing or statement, or a 13F line naming BlackRock as an XRP ETF holder. The page on trustworthy XRP news sources lists where such documents are published.
What we know
- Yahoo Finance reported on June 10, 2026 that Ondo Finance runs OUSG, its Treasury fund backed by BlackRock’s BUIDL fund, on the XRP Ledger with 24/7 minting and redemption, and that OUSG mints and redeems in Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin.
- Yahoo Finance reported on June 10, 2026 that buying a tokenized Treasury on the XRP Ledger does not require buying XRP, and that in the JPMorgan pilot RLUSD did the bridging while XRP covered the network fee.
- crypto.news reported on July 8, 2026 that in May 2026 the DTCC named Ripple Prime to its roughly 50-firm tokenization working group alongside JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs, BlackRock and others; it called the seat a chair at a standards table, not a contract, and said the DTCC’s tokenization service is not built on the XRP Ledger.
- ICO Bench reported in May 2026 that Ripple Prime reportedly accepts XRP alongside US Treasuries, fiat, gold, Bitcoin and BlackRock money market funds as eligible collateral.
- crypto.news reported on July 8, 2026 that RLUSD is Ripple’s ticket into the Open USD consortium alongside Visa, Mastercard, Stripe and BlackRock.
- Ripple’s April 17, 2026 post named the US spot XRP ETF issuers as REX-Osprey, Canary Capital, Bitwise, Grayscale, Franklin Templeton and 21Shares, and said ARK Invest had allocated nearly 20% of its CoinDesk 20 ETF to XRP.
- Ripple’s April 17, 2026 post said Goldman Sachs disclosed a $153.8 million position in spot XRP ETFs in its Q4 2025 13F filing; Bitcoin.com said Goldman Sachs, Jane Street and Millennium Management led disclosed holders in second-quarter 13F filings.
- Robbie Mitchnick, BlackRock’s head of digital assets, said in September 2025 that a crypto ETF launch depends on client demand, market value, liquidity, maturity and how well the coin fits in a portfolio, but that statement was about crypto ETFs in general and the sources do not show him naming XRP. As of September 30, 2026, BlackRock has not filed for an XRP ETF or confirmed any timeline, though Canary Capital CEO Steven McClurg speculated in January 2026 that a filing could come in late 2026 or early 2027.
What we reason Analysis
- BlackRock is not among the spot XRP ETF holders named in the Bitcoin.com report on second-quarter 13F filings. This reading rests only on the holder list in that report; it is not a statement by BlackRock.
- Each BlackRock link in the cited reports places BlackRock next to a Ripple product or on a shared committee, and in the tokenized-Treasury case the settlement asset is RLUSD, not XRP. This follows from the Yahoo Finance and crypto.news reports on OUSG, the JPMorgan pilot and the DTCC working group.
- A claim that BlackRock buys, holds or issues XRP would need a BlackRock filing or statement, or a 13F line naming BlackRock, before it can be repeated. As of September 30, 2026, no public document of that kind has appeared.
What's still open
- As of September 30, 2026, no public source shows BUIDL itself issued on the XRP Ledger, or BUIDL offered to Ripple Treasury clients.
- As of September 30, 2026, no public source shows BlackRock filing for or running an XRP ETF.
- Does Ripple Prime really accept BlackRock money market funds as collateral? As of September 30, 2026, only ICO Bench reports it, with the word ‘reportedly’, and Ripple Prime has not published a collateral list confirming it.
- As of October 1, 2026, I could not find the publication date of the Yahoo Finance report that Ondo’s OUSG fund, backed by BlackRock’s BUIDL fund, runs on the XRP Ledger and mints and redeems in RLUSD, so the June 2026 timing is unconfirmed.
In plain English
According to a Yahoo Finance report, Ondo Finance’s OUSG Treasury fund, which is backed by BlackRock’s BUIDL fund, runs on the XRP Ledger, and BlackRock money market funds are reported to be eligible collateral at Ripple Prime. A fund built on top of one of its funds runs on the XRP Ledger, but it uses Ripple’s dollar coin, RLUSD, for buying in and cashing out, and buying it does not require buying XRP. BlackRock and Ripple’s brokerage also sit on the same industry committee, which writes rules and is not a contract. None of the reports cited here shows BlackRock buying XRP or running an XRP fund.
