Destination tag
Plain definition. A destination tag is a number added to an XRP Ledger payment that shows who the payment is meant for, such as which customer an exchange should credit.
Technical definition. Destination tags are a feature of XRP Ledger payments, formatted in transactions as 32-bit unsigned integers, that indicate the beneficiary or destination for a payment sent to a multi-purpose address. The XRPL documentation says source and destination tags do not have direct on-ledger functionality and merely provide information about how off-ledger systems should process a payment; it adds that an address operator can enable the RequireDest setting, so the XRP Ledger rejects a payment that arrives without a destination tag.
