How do I look up and read an XRP Ledger transaction on a public explorer?
Confirmed Published 2 min read
Short answer
XRP Ledger documentation states that the simplest, most foolproof way to look up a processed view of a transaction is on a full history server, and that the xrpld API can be used directly for the most direct and authoritative results possible. The xrpl.org menu listed an “Explorers” link when checked on September 29, 2026.
The full answer
This page is incomplete, and this section explains why. The site builds every answer from sources it has opened and saved. On September 30, 2026 the project held no official XRP Ledger documentation on reading a transaction record. The steps for reading a record are therefore listed as open questions. They are not written as instructions from memory.
XRPL.org describes, at a low level, how to know why a transaction reached the outcome it did, noting that for an end-user it is easier to look at a processed view of a transaction. The fields a reader needs are listed below as open questions until the official documentation is in hand.
Where does the XRP Ledger’s own site point people to explorers?
xrpl.org hosts the XRP Ledger’s docs, tutorials and the XRPL blog. When the page was checked on September 29, 2026, its site menu listed an “Explorers” link alongside “Insights” and “Amendment Voting Status” [1]. The menu label alone doesn’t say which explorers sit behind that link, so I name none.
How much activity would a search have to sort through?
DefiLlama’s XRPL chain page showed 3.19 million transactions, 45,184 active addresses and 3,129 new addresses in the previous 24 hours, checked on September 29, 2026 [2]. A CCN article republished on Yahoo Finance on August 20, 2026 reported that the ledger processed 222.4 million transactions in Q2 2026, its second-highest quarterly total [3]. At more than three million transactions a day, finding one payment means searching for it. The page on XRP Ledger activity numbers covers what those totals include.
What should the fee on a transaction look like?
The same CCN article reported that the average transaction cost on the ledger fell to $0.00024 during Q2 2026 [3]. In dollar terms, the network cost of a typical transfer is a very small part of the amount sent. The project does not yet hold official text on how an explorer displays the fee for a single transaction.
Which parts of a transaction record still need an official source?
Readers who need the destination tag now can start at what a destination tag is. The earlier step in this trail, moving XRP from an exchange to your own wallet, covers the transfer itself.
Can a record on an explorer be used to undo a payment?
No official statement on this was located as of September 30, 2026. The question has its own page: can a crypto transfer be reversed. For a payment that has not arrived or went to the wrong place, see what to do when an XRP transfer has not arrived.
What is the main caution about trusting what an explorer shows?
The project has not yet sourced a critique of explorers themselves. A different risk is covered on another page: a correct record of a payment to the wrong address. That page, address poisoning, explains how look-alike addresses get into a wallet’s history.
What we know
- xrpl.org, which hosts XRP Ledger docs, tutorials and the XRPL blog, listed an “Explorers” link in its site menu when the page was checked on September 29, 2026 [1].
- DefiLlama’s XRPL chain page showed 3.19 million transactions, 45,184 active addresses and 3,129 new addresses in the previous 24 hours when checked on September 29, 2026 [2].
- A CCN article republished on Yahoo Finance on August 20, 2026 reported that the XRP Ledger processed 222.4 million transactions in Q2 2026, its second-highest quarterly total [3].
- The same article reported that the average transaction cost fell to $0.00024 during Q2 2026 [3].
- The XRP Ledger documentation on xrpl.org says a Payment transaction names the receiving account in its Destination field, and an optional DestinationTag number identifies the reason for the payment or a hosted recipient. It also says the delivered_amount field in a payment’s metadata gives the amount the destination actually received, and the server includes it for all successful Payment, CheckCash, and AccountDelete transactions. As of September 30, 2026, no official text was found that describes how a public explorer displays the tag, the sending and receiving addresses, the delivered amount, or the fee on its transaction page.
What we reason Analysis
- This follows from DefiLlama’s count of 3.19 million transactions in 24 hours (checked September 29, 2026): at that volume, finding one payment means searching for it. Scrolling through recent activity does not work.
- This follows from CCN’s reported Q2 2026 average cost of $0.00024 per transaction: in dollar terms, the network cost of a typical transfer is a very small part of the amount sent.
What's still open
- Official xrpl.org text states that if you know the transaction’s identifying hash, you can look it up that way, and that for an end-user it is easier to look at a processed view of a transaction, for example using XRP Charts to get an English-language description of any recorded transaction; as of October 2, 2026, it does not say where a wallet or exchange shows the hash, or how to search an explorer with it or with an address.
- As of September 30, 2026, what result code marks a successful transaction, and can a submitted transaction fail?
- Can anyone reverse a confirmed XRP Ledger payment? No official statement was located as of September 30, 2026.
- Not found as of September 30, 2026: which explorers xrpl.org lists behind its “Explorers” link, and who runs them.
