Transaction cost
Plain definition. The transaction cost is a small amount of XRP that every XRP Ledger transaction must destroy, protecting the network from spam and denial-of-service attacks.
Technical definition. Every signed transaction must state its transaction cost in the Fee field; the minimum for a standard transaction is 10 drops, and it can rise when network load is higher than usual. The XRP Ledger documentation on transaction cost says the cost is not paid to any party, because the XRP is irrevocably destroyed. Each xrpld server ignores transactions below its load-based threshold and queues those below its open ledger cost for a later ledger.
