Flare
Plain definition. Flare is the network where XRP becomes programmable, so it can be used in decentralized finance such as trading and lending, while XRPL still issues and moves XRP.
Technical definition. Flare describes itself as the place “where XRP becomes programmable,” while XRPL remains “where XRP is issued and moved.” It provides the infrastructure around assets that were not built for smart contracts: Flare Data Connector verifies external-chain events, Flare Time Series Oracle supplies price data, and Flare Smart Accounts and Flare Confidential Compute offer a path toward richer cross-chain execution. Its FAssets system connects these roles. After the Flare Data Connector proves that an XRP transaction occurred on XRPL, the system mints FXRP, a 1:1 representation of XRP on Flare designed for use across EVM DeFi.
