Open interest
Plain definition. Open interest is the number of options contracts that are still outstanding, either across a particular options market or for one options contract, as FINRA explains.
Technical definition. FINRA defines open interest as “the number of outstanding contracts in a particular options market or an options contract.” For options tied to a particular security, the figure can be broken down by puts and calls, by strike price and by expiration date.
