Digital Asset Stockpile

Plain definition. The United States Digital Asset Stockpile is a set of Treasury custodial accounts holding forfeited digital assets other than bitcoin, created by a presidential order on March 6, 2025.

Technical definition. Executive Order 14233, signed March 6, 2025, directs the Secretary of the Treasury to set up an office to administer and control custodial accounts collectively known as the United States Digital Asset Stockpile. The accounts are capitalized with all digital assets owned by the Treasury, other than BTC, that were finally forfeited in criminal or civil asset forfeiture proceedings. The order describes the Stockpile as a secure account for orderly and strategic management of the government’s other digital asset holdings, and it bars acquiring additional Stockpile Assets except through forfeiture proceedings or civil money penalties unless there is further executive or legislative action.
