SBI
Plain definition. SBI, or the SBI Group, is a financial institution that Coinpaper described in May 2026 as central to bringing distributed ledger technology into payment services in Japan.
Technical definition. Coinpaper reported on May 30, 2026 that the SBI Group is among the financial institutions in Japan “playing a central role in integrating distributed ledger technology into payment services.” Its remittance arm, SBI Remit, has used Ripple’s RippleNet since 2017. In 2021 it became the first company in Japan to offer international remittances powered by On-Demand Liquidity, which uses XRP as a bridge asset, with customer transfers routed through SBI VC Trade.
