Is Ripple a public company? Who owns it, and can I buy Ripple stock?
Company-reported Published 4 min read
Short answer
No. Ripple is a private company, and its shares are not listed on any stock exchange. Its president said in January 2026 that Ripple planned to remain private, CoinDesk reported. Ripple is privately held and its shares are not listed on a public exchange; US private offerings are generally limited to accredited investors. Buying XRP buys no part of Ripple.
The full answer
Ripple has not listed its shares on any stock exchange, and its president said in 2026 that it did not plan to. On January 7, 2026 CoinDesk quoted Ripple President Monica Long: “Currently, we still plan to remain private.”[1] On August 20, 2026 Yahoo Finance quoted her again, “No plans for an IPO,” and reported that Ripple “has not submitted an S-1, announced a listing decision, or given any timetable.” Citing Finbold’s account of his remarks in Wyoming, the same report said CEO Brad Garlinghouse was now more neutral on the question.[2] A private-share marketplace, Forge Global, describes Ripple as “a privately held company” that is “currently not publicly traded on any stock markets including NYSE or NASDAQ.”[3]
Who are Ripple’s largest shareholders?
A full list of Ripple’s shareholders and their stakes was not found in the sources searched for this page, as of September 29, 2026. What is public comes in pieces. Ripple’s November 5, 2025 release named the investors in its latest round: “funds managed by affiliates of Fortress Investment Group, affiliates of Citadel Securities, Pantera Capital, Galaxy Digital, Brevan Howard, and Marshall Wace.” The same release said Ripple “has repurchased more than 25% of its outstanding shares in recent years.”[4] Forbes estimated on November 6, 2025 that Garlinghouse held a 6% stake in the company.[5] That figure is Forbes’ estimate, not a Ripple disclosure, and this site could not retrieve a copy of the Forbes article to check the wording. A complete breakdown of the stakes held by Ripple’s founders and early venture investors was not found in the sources searched for this page.
What valuations have Ripple’s private share sales and buybacks implied?
Two company-level prices are on record. Ripple announced a $500 million investment “at a $40 billion valuation” on November 5, 2025, following “its recent $1 billion tender offer at the same valuation.”[4] CoinDesk, citing Bloomberg, reported on March 11, 2026 that Ripple planned “to repurchase up to $750 million in shares from investors and employees” in a buyback that “values the company at about $50 billion.”[6] That is a 25% rise in the price Ripple set for its own shares in about four months (our calculation). Both numbers come from deals Ripple arranged. No stock exchange price exists to compare them with.
Can accredited or non-US investors reach Ripple shares through secondary markets or funds?
Some private-share marketplaces list Ripple. Forge Global’s page says “to buy the stock of a private company like Ripple, you must be an accredited investor,” and that completing a trade “depends on Ripple’s secondary trading policies, available demand and transaction approvals,” including any “right of first refusal.”[3] This page does not recommend any marketplace.
The SEC’s investor site, Investor.gov, says that in the US an individual generally qualifies as an accredited investor with earned income over $200,000 ($300,000 with a spouse or spousal equivalent) in each of the prior two years, or a net worth over $1 million not counting their home. The same bulletin says these offerings are limited so that buyers can sustain the risk of loss without the protections of a registered offering.[7] The thresholds are given as Investor.gov states them. Rules in other countries are not covered here.
Does owning XRP give me any part of Ripple?
No. The SEC’s Release 33-11412, effective March 23, 2026, lists “XRP (XRP)” among its examples of digital commodities and says a digital commodity does not convey “rights to future income, profits, or assets of a business enterprise.”[8] XRP and Ripple shares are separate assets. The full comparison is on whether buying XRP means owning part of Ripple, and the company behind the shares is described on what Ripple does today.
Are there listed companies that give exposure to Ripple or XRP?
The listed-market routes found for this page lead to XRP, not to Ripple shares. Evernorth, a company set up to hold XRP, said in October 2025 that “net proceeds will primarily fund open-market purchases of XRP” and named Ripple as “a strategic investor.”[9] On August 27, 2026 Evernorth said its shareholder vote on a Nasdaq listing, under the ticker “XRPN,” was set for September 30, 2026.[10] Shareholders approved it that day, with 20,514,034 votes for and 1,362,081 against, according to Armada’s Form 8-K [16], and Evernorth expects closing on October 7, 2026 [14]. The listing was not final as of September 29, 2026. What Evernorth holds and who backs it is on what Evernorth is.
What is the case that Ripple could still list?
The strongest evidence against treating “private” as permanent is Garlinghouse’s own shift. Yahoo Finance reported in August 2026 that Garlinghouse “said Ripple has been happily private for a long time but is now more neutral on the IPO question.”[2] Ripple has also used buybacks and tender offers, which give early holders cash without a listing.[4][6] Neither amounts to a filing, and no S-1 had been filed as of Yahoo Finance’s August 2026 report.[2]

What we reason Analysis
- The valuation of Ripple’s shares rose from $40 billion (November 2025) to about $50 billion (March 2026) in transactions set or reported by the company and the press, not by a public market price. This follows from Ripple’s November 2025 release and CoinDesk’s March 2026 report.
- An XRP holder has no claim on Ripple’s shares or profits, so a Ripple listing would not by itself pay anything to XRP holders. This follows from SEC Release 33-11412 and Ripple’s private ownership.
What's still open
- Ripple’s full list of shareholders and their stakes: not published by Ripple and not found in filings searched as of September 29, 2026.
- Rules for non-US investors buying private Ripple shares: not covered here; only the US accredited investor rules were checked, as of September 29, 2026.
- Will Evernorth’s business combination close on October 7, 2026, so that XRPN becomes Evernorth Holdings’ Class A stock on October 8, as the company expects?
In plain English
Ripple is owned privately by its executives, staff and investment firms, and you cannot buy its shares through a normal stock account. In the US, private company shares are generally sold only to people who meet income or wealth tests, and Ripple has a say in any sale. Ripple President Monica Long said in January 2026 that the company still planned to remain private. Owning XRP is a separate thing and does not give you a piece of Ripple.
