How much trading happens on the XRPL DEX, and is it growing?

Short answer
DefiLlama showed $203.54 million of XRPL DEX volume over its latest 30 days, and $57.77 million over 7 days. Growth is mixed: Evernorth said Q2 2026 trading averaged 4.42 million XRP daily, about 20% above a year earlier, while Blockworks reported Q2 dollar volume fell 35.9% from Q1 to $482.9 million.
The full answer
The XRP Ledger has a built-in exchange (DEX) with an order book of offers, which XRPL.org says has run since the ledger’s launch in 2012.[10] XRPL.org also says automated market maker (AMM) pools “provide liquidity in the XRP Ledger’s decentralized exchange (DEX).”[11] Figures below are in US dollars unless marked as XRP.
CryptoSlate reported that DefiLlama recorded $253.1 million of XRPL DEX volume for the latest complete 30 days (the 30 days to about September 11, 2026), up 152.1% from $100.4 million in the preceding 30 days. On September 29, 2026, DefiLlama’s XRPL page showed $9.67 million of DEX volume over the previous 24 hours and $57.99 million over seven days, down 9.32% on the week before.[5][12] DefiLlama’s separate XRPL DEX entry showed $9.66 million over 24 hours, $57.77 million over seven days, $203.54 million over 30 days, and $3.348 billion in total since it began tracking. It describes its measure as “volume of all spot token swaps on the DEX.”[6]
How has volume changed through 2026?
It fell in Q2, rose sharply into September, then eased.
- Q2 2026: Blockworks’ quarterly report, as summarised by KuCoin, said “DEX volume dropped 35.9% QoQ to $482.9 million.”[1] That is about $5.3 million a day (our calculation).
- Mid-August to mid-September: CryptoSlate reported on September 12, 2026 that “DefiLlama recorded $253.1 million of XRPL DEX volume for the latest complete 30 days, compared with $100.4 million in the preceding 30 days, a 152.1% increase.”[4]
- Late September: by September 29, the 30-day figure on DefiLlama’s XRPL DEX entry was $203.54 million, and seven-day volume on its chain page was falling week on week.[5][6]
Measured in XRP rather than dollars, the Q2 picture differs. Evernorth counted DEX trading of 4.42 million XRP a day in Q2 2026, about 20% more than a year earlier, and said the order book carried 81% of it, up from 54%.[3] Evernorth compares with the same quarter a year earlier; Blockworks compares with the quarter before, and counts dollars.
What drove the Q2 fall and the Q3 rebound?
No source gives a full explanation. One driver is visible in the figures: price. Blockworks, as summarised by CoinEdition, said XRP’s price fell 19.9% in Q2.[2] CryptoSlate reported a 29.7% monthly rise in XRP to September 12.[4] Dollar volume moves with price even when the number of XRP traded stays the same, so part of both swings comes from price (our reasoning). CryptoSlate’s report, citing DefiLlama, gives the 152.1% increase in 30-day XRPL DEX volume in the cited passage without stating a cause.[4]
Where the trading happens also changed. Evernorth’s measure shows the order book taking a larger share of DEX trading over the year.[3] Bitquery, a blockchain data firm, counted 283 accounts it classed as DEX order bots in August 2026, sending 48.1% of all ledger transactions.[9] How much of the volume those bots, arbitrage or self-dealing account for is on how much XRP Ledger activity is bots, spam or wash trading.
How small is on-ledger volume compared with XRP’s trading volume on CoinGecko?
Small. CoinGecko showed about $3.96 billion of XRP traded over 24 hours on September 29, 2026.[7] DefiLlama’s 24-hour XRPL DEX figure the same day, $9.67 million,[5] is about 0.24% of that (our calculation). The two figures come from different providers and moments, and CoinGecko’s covers XRP only, while the DEX figure includes trading in other tokens on the ledger. The gap is several hundredfold, far wider than those differences are likely to explain (our reasoning).
Settled trades are also few next to total ledger traffic. Bitquery counted 2,970,922 trades on the built-in exchange in August 2026, from 12,153 accounts.[9]
Which pairs make up the volume?
Evernorth, in a July 13, 2026 communication filed with the SEC, cited Dune data through May 2026: RLUSD made up about 12% of all trading on the XRP Ledger, and the RLUSD/XRP pair cleared about $900 million in six months.[8] These are Evernorth’s figures, not SEC findings. The split between RLUSD and XRP trading is on RLUSD’s share of XRP trading.
What does this volume say about liquidity?
Volume counts trades; it does not count the money waiting to be traded. How many times the pools’ locked value turns over each month is on XRPL DEX liquidity turnover. How the DEX compares with other chains’ exchanges over the same periods is on XRP Ledger activity versus other chains.
Will the September growth rate hold?
The strongest caution is in the figures already cited. The 152% jump in the 30 days to mid-September came off a low base of $100.4 million,[4] and by September 29 DefiLlama’s seven-day volume was falling week on week.[5] One month’s rate says little about the next (our reasoning from that low base and the late-September fall). The wider case is on will XRP growth rates continue.
What we know
- Q2 2026: Blockworks, as reported by KuCoin on August 19, 2026, put XRP Ledger DEX volume at $482.9 million, down 35.9% on Q1.

- CoinGecko, checked September 29, 2026, showed about $3.96 billion of XRP trading volume over 24 hours.
- On September 29, 2026, DefiLlama’s XRPL page showed $9.67 million of DEX volume over the previous 24 hours and $57.99 million over seven days, down 9.32% on the week before. These are trailing windows of 24 hours and 7 days.
What we reason Analysis
- Q2 2026 volume averaged about $5.3 million a day. Our calculation: $482.9 million over 91 days.
- Part of the Q2 fall and the Q3 rise in dollar volume follows XRP’s price, which fell 19.9% in Q2 and rose 29.7% in the month to September 12. Blockworks’ State of XRP report, as reported by Yahoo Finance, found that XRP closed the second quarter of 2026 at $1.04, down 20% from the end of the first quarter, while XRPL-native stablecoin supply rose 195% quarter over quarter to $825.5 million, so price and network activity moved in opposite directions that quarter.
- The September 2026 growth rate is a weak guide to later months: the 152.1% rise DefiLlama recorded for the 30 days to about September 11, 2026 came off a $100.4 million base for the preceding 30 days, and DefiLlama’s seven-day figure was down 9.32% on the week by September 29, 2026. This draws on CryptoSlate’s September 12, 2026 report and DefiLlama’s XRPL chain page.
- Over 24 hours on September 29, 2026, trading on the ledger’s DEX was about 0.24% of CoinGecko’s 24-hour XRP trading volume. This is our calculation from DefiLlama’s $9.67 million and CoinGecko’s $3.96 billion; the two cover different venues and snapshot times.
What's still open
- It is not known whether DefiLlama’s XRPL DEX volume counts order-book trades as well as AMM swaps: its method says ‘all spot token swaps’ without saying which (checked September 29, 2026).
- No public source had published Q3 2026 quarterly DEX volume as of September 29, 2026.
In plain English
The XRP Ledger has its own built-in exchange where tokens can be swapped. DefiLlama put trading on it at about $58 million in the week to September 29, 2026, and about $10 million in a day. Blockworks figures showed a fall in the second quarter of 2026, CryptoSlate reported a jump from mid-August to mid-September, and DefiLlama’s weekly figure then eased. CoinGecko showed about $4 billion of XRP traded in one day, so the ledger’s own exchange handles a small fraction of that.
