How much trading does XRPL DEX liquidity support relative to its size?
Also asked as: “What is the capital turnover rate on the XRPL DEX?” · “Is XRPL DEX trading volume the same as liquidity?”

Short answer
CryptoSlate reported DefiLlama recorded $253.1 million of XRPL DEX volume over the 30 days to about September 11, 2026. Its method calls the volume “all spot token swaps on the DEX”; whether that includes order-book trades is not established, so the ratio is only indicative.
The full answer
Turnover here means trading volume over a period divided by the value locked in the exchange’s pools. A ratio of 5 in a month means each locked dollar was, on average, on one side of five dollars of trades. The volume is not extra money: the same pool balances are traded against again and again.
DefiLlama’s XRPL DEX entry counts only automated market maker (AMM) pools. Its method “finds all AMM pools on XRPL, checks their reserves, calculates TVL (in XRP) for each pool and sums them up.”[1] On September 29, 2026 it showed $41.59 million locked, up 11% over 30 days, and $203.54 million of volume over those 30 days.[1] That is about 4.9 times the pools’ value in a month (our calculation).
On DefiLlama’s wider chain page, which includes other DeFi protocols, the figures were $46.56 million locked and $57.99 million of DEX volume over seven days,[2] about 1.25 times a week (our calculation). The two views measure different things and should not be mixed in one ratio.
Is trading volume the same as liquidity?
No. Liquidity is the money available to trade against at a given moment. Volume is the total of trades over a period. If $42 million sits in pools and $204 million trades in a month, the market has $42 million of liquidity, not $246 million. Multiplying a month’s turnover by 12 to get an annual figure assumes that month repeats, which the next section shows it does not.
There is a second limit. Evernorth reported that the order book, not the AMM pools, carried 81% of XRP Ledger DEX trading in Q2 2026.[6] DefiLlama describes its volume as “all spot token swaps on the DEX”[1]; whether that includes order-book trades is not established, and its locked value counts only AMM pool reserves. If its volume includes order-book trades, dividing it by pool value overstates how much the pools themselves support (our reasoning). Which trades the volume figure includes could not be confirmed from here.
Does the turnover hold across 30, 60 and 90-day windows, or is it one month’s figure?
It changes from month to month. DefiLlama’s API publishes the daily volume and pool-value series behind its XRPL DEX entry.[8][9] Dividing each window’s volume by the average pool value over the same days gives (our calculation):
- 30 days to September 28, 2026: $203.54 million of volume against an average of $37.94 million locked, about 5.4 times.
- 60 days to September 28: $432.38 million against $34.47 million, about 12.5 times, or 6.3 times per 30 days.
- 90 days to September 28: $546.14 million against $32.82 million, about 16.6 times, or 5.5 times per 30 days.
- 30 days to September 10: $252.93 million against $34.67 million, about 7.3 times. CryptoSlate reported a similar $253.1 million for the latest 30 days on September 12.[3]
These use average pool value, so they run higher than the 4.9 times above, which divides by the pool value on the last day. The 30 days before mid-August had only $100.4 million of volume.[3] Turnover in that window was likely lower again, unless pool value then was far below the averages above; that window’s pool value was not calculated here (our reasoning). On this evidence the ratio is one month’s reading, not a stable property of the ledger.
How does this turnover compare with major DEXs on other chains?
Using the same DefiLlama measure on the same day, September 29, 2026:
| Exchange | Locked value | 30-day volume | Turnover (our calculation) |
|---|---|---|---|
| XRPL DEX (AMM pools) | $41.59 million[1] | $203.54 million[1] | about 4.9x |
| Raydium | $1.346 billion[5] | $9.157 billion[5] | about 6.8x |
| Uniswap V3 | $1.701 billion[4] | $47.839 billion[4] | about 28x |
The XRP Ledger’s pools turned over somewhat less often than Raydium’s and far less often than Uniswap V3’s, while holding about 30 to 40 times less locked value than either. Two peers on one day are not a full comparison; broader activity comparisons are on XRP Ledger activity versus other chains.
How big are individual pools?
Small. CryptoSlate reported on September 12, 2026 that an XRP/RLUSD pool tracked by XRPL.to “held about 1.724 million XRP and 2.288 million RLUSD,” about $4.6 million.[3] A large trade against a pool that size moves the price more than the same trade against a deep pool. Whether that depth matters for payments is on how much XRP liquidity payments need, and whether turnover acts as a multiplier on capital is on XRP liquidity multipliers and borrowed money.
Could bots or wash trading inflate the turnover?
Yes, in principle, and the ratio cannot tell. Turnover rises whenever volume rises, including volume from automated trading between related accounts. Bitquery found one XRP Ledger account that placed nearly 13 million DEX orders in August 2026, of which 882 ended in a trade.[7] Order placement of that kind inflates transaction counts more than volume (our reasoning from Bitquery’s order and trade counts). What is known about bot and wash activity is on how much XRP Ledger activity is bots, spam or wash trading. The case that XRP’s usable liquidity sits mostly off the ledger, which turnover on its DEX does not capture, is on how deep is XRP liquidity.
What we know
- Checked September 29, 2026: DefiLlama’s XRPL DEX entry showed $41.59 million locked in AMM pools, up 11% over 30 days, and $203.54 million of 30-day volume.
- DefiLlama’s XRPL chain page, checked September 29, 2026, showed $46.56 million locked in DeFi and $57.99 million of seven-day DEX volume.
- September 12, 2026: CryptoSlate reported $253.1 million of XRPL DEX volume in the latest 30 days, using DefiLlama data, and one XRP/RLUSD pool holding about $4.6 million.
- On DefiLlama, checked September 29, 2026, Uniswap V3 showed $1.701 billion locked and $47.839 billion of 30-day volume, and Raydium $1.346 billion locked and $9.157 billion.
- Q2 2026: Evernorth reported that the order book, which DefiLlama’s locked-value figure does not include, carried 81% of DEX trading.
What we reason Analysis
- 30-day turnover on the XRPL DEX entry was about 4.9 times. Our calculation: $203.54 million divided by $41.59 million (DefiLlama, September 29, 2026).
- Seven-day chain-level turnover was about 1.25 times. Our calculation: $57.99 million divided by $46.56 million (DefiLlama, September 29, 2026).
- Against average daily pool value, turnover per 30 days was about 5.4 times over the 30 days to September 28, 2026, 6.3 over 60 days, 5.5 over 90 days, and about 7.3 over the 30 days to September 10. Our calculation from DefiLlama’s API daily volume and TVL series, fetched September 29, 2026.
- On the same 30-day measure, Uniswap V3 turned over about 28 times and Raydium about 6.8 times. Our calculation from DefiLlama, September 29, 2026.
- Dividing all DEX volume by AMM pool value overstates what the pools alone support, because most trading ran through the order book. This follows from DefiLlama’s method and Evernorth’s 81% order-book share.
What's still open
- Whether DefiLlama’s XRPL DEX volume includes order-book trades: its method says ‘all spot token swaps’ and the adapter code could not be opened (September 29, 2026).
- Order-book depth on the XRP Ledger: no source found that publishes the value of resting offers as a daily series, as of September 29, 2026.
In plain English
Trading pools on the XRP Ledger held about $42 million at the end of September 2026. Over the month before, about $204 million of trades passed through the ledger’s exchange. How much of that ran against the pools, rather than the exchange’s order book, could not be confirmed. Trading volume counts money changing hands; it adds no new money. Two large exchanges on other blockchains reused their money more often: one about 28 times in a month, the other about 7.
