Custody
Plain definition. In finance, custody is the legal right to manage and look after another person’s money and investments, according to the Cambridge Business English Dictionary.
Technical definition. The Cambridge Business English Dictionary marks this sense of custody as a law and finance term and defines it as “the legal right to manage and look after another person’s money, investments, etc.” More broadly, custody means the right or duty to care for someone or something. The dictionary’s usage example says investment advisers with actual custody of clients’ funds pose a higher risk to clients.
