What can a company do with XRP held in its treasury?

Short answer
Evernorth’s SEC filing lists changes in market, regulatory, political and economic conditions affecting digital assets generally or XRP among the factors bearing on the anticipated benefits of its business combination, including its ability to build and manage an institutional XRP treasury, execute DeFi yield strategies and drive institutional adoption of XRP.
The full answer
This page sorts the uses of treasury XRP into what the sources show as stated plans, what exists as a product, and what no source yet reports as happening. The core answer is labelled Analysis because the sources describe possible uses, and no source reports how much treasury XRP is actually deployed.
Is XRP held as a treasury reserve asset?
Yes, at least by one company in the sources. On 20 October 2025, Evernorth said its planned listing was expected to raise over $1 billion in gross proceeds, including $200 million from SBI, and that net proceeds would primarily fund open-market purchases of XRP to build an institutional XRP treasury [1]. In the same release, Evernorth said that, unlike a passive ETF, it seeks to grow XRP per share by participating in institutional lending, liquidity provisioning and DeFi yield opportunities [1]. The difference from a fund is covered on how Evernorth differs from an XRP ETF.
Evernorth’s own risk list, in the same filing, includes its ability to build and manage an institutional XRP treasury and execute DeFi yield strategies, and the volatility of the price of XRP and other digital assets, along with a correlation involving XRP [1].
Can treasury XRP be lent out?
Evernorth says that is its main plan. In a post filed with the SEC in 2026, it stated its intent to use the upcoming XRP Lending Protocol (XLS-66) as a core pillar of its digital asset strategy [2]. The post describes lenders depositing liquidity into a dedicated XRP vault, and a design meant to enable fixed-term, fixed-rate loans [2]. Institutional borrowers would draw XRP loans for strategies such as market making or collateral management, without having to liquidate their own positions [2]. Evernorth called this what it believes is an attractive way to grow its treasury, and said it aims to help unlock what could be a multi-billion dollar annual yield opportunity [2]. That figure is Evernorth’s own projection, not a measured result.
The feature was not live. The same post asked developers and validators to stress-test the proposed amendment [2]. Evernorth’s report published 2 September 2026 said the Single Asset Vault (XLS-65) and Lending Protocol (XLS-66) amendments were in validator voting at quarter end and had not activated [5]. The mechanics are explained on how the XRP Ledger’s native lending protocol works, and what these strategies pay is on earning yield on XRP without selling it.
Evernorth has also looked at other routes. On 8 January 2026, Evernorth and Doppler Finance said they had entered a strategic relationship to explore collaboration, including the design and pilot of institutional liquidity and treasury use cases on the XRP Ledger [3]. They said the focus was structured liquidity deployment and the evaluation of onchain products and mechanisms for deploying XRP capital at scale [3]. The release describes exploration, not a launched product.
Can treasury software supply XRP to trading pools automatically?
Ripple offers tools for this. Ripple’s Wallet-as-a-Service documentation, read on 30 September 2026, says its XRP Ledger AMM APIs are live, categorised as Alpha (unstable API, expect changes), and let customers interact programmatically with AMMs on the ledger [4]. Ripple lists trading and market making as a use-case, saying providing liquidity into AMMs makes it easy to generate revenue on-chain [4]. Transactions sent through these APIs are subject to the same policy engine rules as other transactions, with policies required for each asset a deposit withdraws from the wallet [4]. According to Ripple, the APIs work on the XRP Ledger only, and deposits are supported only in two-asset mode [4]. The API detail is on whether institutions can use XRPL AMMs through Ripple’s APIs.
Pool activity has not tracked pool growth. Evernorth’s 2 September 2026 report says that, measured quarter-end over six quarters to Q2 2026, XRP-paired pools grew 26% while trading through those pools fell 74% [5].
Can treasury XRP be posted as collateral or used in hedged strategies?
A product that does both exists, though it is built for XRP holders in general rather than for one company. bitcoin.com reported that the MXRPY vault became accessible to XRP holders through Upshift from May 15, with an initial deposit cap of 500,000 FXRP and a targeted annual yield of roughly 3% to 4% [6]. Its three return sources are options strategies that use XRP as collateral through FalconX, market-neutral basis and funding-rate trades using borrowed stablecoins, and Flare-native XRPFi applications [6]. The companies said yields may vary, and that users remain exposed to counterparty, smart-contract, oracle and infrastructure risks [6].
Collateral use of XRP inside traditional firms is narrower. crypto.news reported on 8 July 2026 that Ripple Prime accepts XRP as collateral for margin and settlement within its own brokerage, and called this Ripple’s own brokerage accepting Ripple’s own asset [7]. More is on whether Ripple Prime accepts XRP as collateral. CaptainAltcoin reported on 10 September 2026 that a filing linked to a Schwab money fund lists shares of several XRP ETFs as collateral in repurchase agreements, which shows ETF shares used as collateral, not a direct XRP purchase by Schwab [8]. The sources fetched for this page do not describe a company hedging treasury XRP on a regulated futures market; the wider question is on hedging XRP on regulated markets.
How is treasury XRP accounted for, and did Evernorth book an impairment?
As of 30 September 2026, the sources fetched for this page do not include Evernorth financial statements, an accounting policy for its XRP, or a statement about an impairment charge. This page therefore does not establish whether Evernorth booked an impairment, how large it was, or whether its XRP is measured at fair value. Searched: Evernorth’s SEC filings of 20 October 2025, 8 January 2026 and 2026, and its 2 September 2026 report.
Whichever method applies, Evernorth itself lists XRP price volatility and the correlation between XRP’s price and the value of its securities as risks [1], so its reported results depend on XRP’s price.
How do these uses stack in one treasury?
A company could keep part of its XRP as a reserve, lend part through vaults once the lending amendment activates, and supply part to AMM pools through tools like Ripple’s APIs. This follows from Evernorth’s stated strategy [1][2] and Ripple’s AMM documentation [4]. Lent or pooled XRP is the same XRP moved to another use, not additional XRP, which matters when adding up holdings; see whether ETF, treasury, DeFi and derivatives XRP can be added together and whether the same XRP can be held, hedged and put to work at once.
As of 30 September 2026, most of these uses appear in the sources as intentions or explorations. Evernorth’s lending plan depended on an amendment still in voting [5], and the Doppler work was described as exploratory [3].
What is the case against reading these uses as XRP demand?
The strongest critique in the sources comes from crypto.news on 8 July 2026. It reported that inside Ripple’s own product stack the settlement asset is predominantly RLUSD, not XRP [7], and that XRP collateral use is real but largely internal to Ripple [7]. It said firms that are not Ripple would need to accept and hold XRP as margin for collateral demand to matter at scale [7]. Its present-day answer on how much Ripple Prime’s business touches XRP was “a sliver” [7]. The risk of a treasury company having to sell is covered on whether an XRP treasury company could be forced to sell its XRP.
Which other companies hold XRP in treasury?
The sources fetched for this page do not list other holders; they cover Evernorth only. Filings of other listed holders are covered on which public companies besides Evernorth hold XRP in their treasury, and Evernorth’s own deployment plan in more detail on what Evernorth is doing with its XRP.

What we reason Analysis
- A treasury can split one XRP holding across several uses: hold, lend a portion, supply a portion to AMM pools. This follows from Evernorth’s stated strategy (lending, liquidity provisioning, DeFi) and the Ripple AMM API documentation.
- As of 30 September 2026, most treasury uses in the sources are stated plans, explorations or products run by third parties, not reported deployments of Evernorth’s XRP. This follows from the dates and wording of the Evernorth, Doppler and XLS-66 sources.
- Supplying XRP to AMM pools in the six quarters to Q2 2026 meant joining a growing pool base while trading through the pools fell. This follows from Evernorth’s reported 26% pool growth and 74% fall in pool trading.
What's still open
- As of 30 September 2026, no project source states how Evernorth accounts for its XRP (fair value or impairment), or whether and why it booked an impairment. Searched: every source mapped to this page, including Evernorth’s SEC filings and its 2 September 2026 report.
- As of 30 September 2026, no project source reports how much of Evernorth’s XRP, if any, has been lent, pooled or posted as collateral.
- As of 30 September 2026, I could not find any list of public companies holding XRP in treasury other than the one from CCN, which I had not checked.
- As of 30 September 2026, no project source describes a company hedging treasury XRP on a regulated futures market.
In plain English
A company that owns XRP can simply keep it, much as it would keep cash in reserve. It can also lend it to other firms, put it into automated trading pools, or pledge it as security for a loan. An SEC exhibit on Evernorth’s proposed business combination lists, among the risks to recognizing the anticipated benefits of the combination, the ability to build and manage an institutional XRP treasury, execute DeFi yield strategies, and drive institutional adoption of XRP. crypto.news reported that inside Ripple’s own product stack, the asset doing the settlement work is predominantly RLUSD, a dollar stablecoin, not XRP.
